California court rejects FedEx Ground claim that drivers are not employees
California court rejects FedEx Ground claim that drivers are not employees
Friday, November 30, 2007
By Ann Belser, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

FedEx Ground has to pay 209 West Coast drivers at least $11 million next year after a California Supreme Court yesterday refused to hear an appeal from the Moon-based division of FedEx Corp. challenging state trial and appeals court rulings that the independent contractor drivers actually are full-time employees.

A spokesman for the package shipping company, Perry Colosimo, said the ruling was not binding on a U.S. District Court case pending in South Bend, Ind., that also challenges the company's classification of more than 150 FedEx Ground drivers as independent contractors.

3. It's a totally obvious scam, classifying employees as
"independent contractors." x(

I'm glad the court is rejecting that claim. I wish it was rejected far more often, at a higher level so that it could have more impact.

6. FedEx Ground is the WORST delivery service in America.
They lose packages. They have no retrieval system where you can pick up a package from their facility. And when I tried, I waited in a guard room for three hours until some company suit decided to come out and tell me that they didn't have a pickup system for packages, and they "lost" my package on the truck but they would "find it" tomorrow. GAAAH!

While there, I saw people turned away who showed up for work. They were told in a meeting that they didn't need steel toed shoes for work, then were turned away because they didn't have steel toed shoes. What an incompetent employer.

FedEx Ground is NOTHING like FedEx Air service. They were another company taken over by FedEx, but without enforcing their air shipment division's reliability standards.
