Truth or Consequences

By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN
Published: May 28, 2008

amongst his tid-bits:

'But the message going forward to every car buyer and carmaker would be this: The price of gasoline is never going back down. Therefore, if you buy a big gas guzzler today, you are locking yourself into perpetually high gasoline bills. You are buying a pig that will eat you out of house and home. At the same time, if you, a manufacturer, continue building fleets of nonhybrid gas guzzlers, you are condemning yourself, your employees and shareholders to oblivion.'

3. I just saw a Smart Car all cute and red like that one on the street
here in Los Angeles this week! I have seen pics of them before, but not one in real life. I did a major double take and my jaw hit the floor.

They are even tinier than they look, lol. But IMHO a perfect city commuter car.

I. Love. This. Car. I've never had so much fun with a car before -- I try to come up with excuses to get out and drive. I love the cabrio -- I can put the top back in any position I want while I'm driving. I can use it like a sunroof or a full convertible at the touch of a button. My timing was perfect, too. I put my order in last April and picked it up April 19, just a month before the lease on my Lexus was up. Who knew when I ordered it how high gas prices would be by now? If I've ever done anything right, this was it.

:hi: Kestrel!

6. I saw a red one here in NM, too
It takes one hell of a brave soul to drive one of those out here in the wild west, where men are men and have a death grip on their penis extending SUVs and monster pickups.

8. Sheer genius. I am in awe. Tom's logic and reasoning skills are beyond
those of mere mortals. Who would have guessed that it wasn't a good time to buy an SUV?
