The severe right wing Christians love to quote the Old Testament when it comes to homosexuality etc., but really really shy away from the New Testament which speaks about loving all, helping the poor, defending the outcasts?

This subject always reminds me of a neighbor of ours when I was a kid.
He went to church every day!

He was also a tyrant and blamed the Jews for everything that went wrong in his life. His eight kids are now scattered all over the country after getting as far away from him as possible.
He eventually moved from the east coast to the west coast as isolated as he could make himself and his wife, but my mother continued to hear from his wife, when she was able to sneak out a letter. His wife wasn't allowed to visit her children, but she managed to defy him. He abused his wife, she suffered much depression and loneliness and eventually died.

He is now gone also.

But, he want to church every day. Oh, what a holy man!

By the way, my mother pulled me out of the local Catholic School in second grade and put me in a public school after learning of the psychological and physical abuse from some of the nuns in that school. They went to church every day, too.

This is not in indictment of all nuns. Just a case in point.

Also, I would like to thank all the superior people with certain (you know the kind) bumper stickers telling drivers behind them how everyone else should live their lives and how superior they are to everyone else because of their beliefs.

are irrelevant but that his death was not. Anger, hate, intolerance, and vengeance are the virtues their version of Jesus values most. Any failure to preach and practice these "virtues" will prevent them from entering the Kingdom of Heaven.

Much to the apoplectic rage of the right wingers, the mainstream churches (Lutherans, Episcopalians, United Methodists, etc.) belong to the National Council of Churches, and by extension to the World Council of Churches, which did things like supporting the African National Congress and protesting the Vietnam War.

Actually, being a Christian is probably the hardest thing a person will ever try. Constantly turning the other cheek. Giving your stuff away. Having empathy towrds those you consider lesser beings. Being willing to sacrifice your life so another can live.

How many people actually try to do these things? Very few.

Someone needs to tell Fartwell snd Robberson and their TV Preacher pals that Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead shouldn't be in their bible!
