Star: "Does the Left hate Bush more than it hates murder?"
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 10:21 AM by Skinner
Anybody see this? Incredible.

---------

Does the Left hate George Bush more than it hates murder?

Sunday, August 3, 2003

By Michael J. Bowers
Star columnist

The campaign by the angry Left in America and Europe to discredit our victory in Iraq has crossed a line. It's not legitimate criticism anymore; it's toxic waste.

<> These people hate President Bush more than they hate Qusai, the Saddam son who liked to watch political prisoners get fed alive into a wood chipper.

<> They hate Bush more than they hate Odai, the Saddam son who punished a woman who had spurned him by covering her with honey and feeding her to two starving Doberman pinschers.

<> And they hate Bush more than they hate Saddam himself, a man who not so long ago machine-gunned thousands of people at a trench in a town called Hilla in exactly the same way that the Nazis once machine-gunned thousands of people at a ravine in Ukraine called Babi Yar.

Am I overstating the case? Listen to what one of their number recently wrote at Democratic Underground, a popular Web site on the Left:

3. Screw Bowers and the Star

I despise Shrub more than any Hussein because he's running the show here, and the Husseins haven't done anything to me. That doesn't mean he's better or worse than those guys, just that they are abstract evil and Shrub is the real one here. And, anyone in the President's office is a lot more dangerous than some scumbag dictator in a third world country.

That is not to say, of course, that I would put embarrasing the embarassment-in-office above proper justice and violate my personal principles just to make him look bad. In that part he has a small point, and it just goes to show that we should all be careful what we say here. They shall twist and spin...

The rest of his screed is more of the usual propagandist bullshit.

5. i think this is the key line:
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 10:44 PM by disgruntella
"But sometimes it's hard for me to tell the difference."
Between truth and lies, apparently....

"In his last State of the Union address, Bush said, 'The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.' It turns out Bush may have unknowingly overstated the case."

ROTFLMAO!!! Does this guy do PR for the White House?

The author also doesn't seem to comprehend the difference between an isolated newsgroup post (possibly a troll) and "the Left." For the record, I don't hate Bush more than I hate the Husseins. But I do think the president and his administration have lied to the American people, and I'm not going to keep quiet about it just because Bush is the "lesser of two evils" compared to the Hussein regime. That's ridiculous!

So is this:
"The most shameful effect of the campaign is that it hurts the morale of our troops, which in turn threatens the future of the people of Iraq."

Oh, it's the Democrats hurting troop morale and endangering the Iraqi people.... not the misguided chickenhawks in the Bush administration. I get it!

And he calls Ann Coulter "plain-speaking" -- is that some sort of euphemism for "bile-spewing"? Whatta maroon....

7. Who has done more to directly harm America -- Saddam or Bush?
Bush, by a landslide. Sure, Saddam is/was a nasty man, but he did not do anything to us other than taunt us into a debilitating war that's driven this once-great nation further into worldwide moral bankruptcy.

Take that, "Michael J. Bowers." And up yours, buddy.

14. Exactly.
We hate those who do us most harm, and Bush has done much more to harm this country than Saddam or his sons. Bush deserves extra enmity because he is home-grown. The enemy without is a menace to be dealt with, but the traitor within raises emotions as no external threat can.

9. Where did this guy learn journalism?
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 10:58 PM by Jack Rabbit
From Rush and Annie? Murdoch? How about Hearst and Pulitzer?

Yes, it's incredible. Unfortunately, there's way too much of that crap going around. No, I don't think highly of the Husseins. If they had been removed properly, the would would be a better and safer place. Howev er, they weren't removed properly.

Since Mr. Bowers seems to miss the point:
  • Saddam was no threat to the United States or even to his weakest neighbor;
  • Bush lied about Saddam's military capabilities;
  • The Iraqi people may be rid of a gang of murderous thugs, but now have in its place colonial pirates;
  • Saddam did not sieze power inthe United Stated after losing the 2000 presidential election, turn an impuressive federal budget surplus over to his corporate cronies and undermine the guarantees of civil liberties laid down in the Bill of Rights.

To be fair to Mr. Bowers, in the past Saddam plunged his nation into unnecessary wars and lied to the Iraqi people about the reasons for doing so. That means that Mr. Bush has sunk to Saddam's level.

What Saddam Hussein was, and how I feel about him, is a red herring in regards to what I, as an American, feel about Mr. Bush. Saddam, until recently, was a problem for the Iraqi people. Now Mr. Bush is a problem for the Iraqi people, just as he is for the American people.

Both the Iraqi people and the American people should throw Mr. Bush out on his ear -- and try him for his crimes.

10. I hate the murders
committed daily by George Bush just as much as I hate Bush himself. I am not a christian. I do not have to love this supremely evil and stupid man. This article is no surprise from a rag with as much credibility as Dim Son himself.

11. Meanwhile, bushco is busy cozying up to the next saddam
a guy who boils people alive. He is our ally in the war on terrorism. I guess boiling people alive does not count as terror.

It just makes me sick that we sell weapons to these types of regimes, and them come down all high and moralistic about it when we decide it is time for them to go.

13. i can't tell the difference
between a conservative ranting freak, and a parody of a conservative ranting freak. which was this?

that title has to be penned by a fifth grader. honestly.

"does the right hate hillary more than it hates pedophiles?"
"does the right hate liberalism more than it hates rape?"
"does the right hate racial equality more than it hates torturing babies?"
"does the right hate taxes more than it hates wife beating?"
"does the right hate democratic underground more than it hates hitler?"

15. Bowers is a "parody"
That was not even a good thought out rant. You are so right about a fifth grader penning the title. Well......maybe a fourth grader.
I reread that entire thread and found that probably over 90 percent of the posts were not pro evil brothers, but in fact, believed as all "thinking" Murikans should believe, that it would have been far better in every way if we had taken them alive.
Seems like DU is getting a lot of coverage lately in editorials. At the same time we are getting a lot of new members who do not make the cut. Is it time for another tinfoil hat? Are they sending disrupters here just to get a good quote on how evil the Duers are??

19. just another "screed" to discredit the "Dem Left" the way they are trying
to discredit Dean. Frankly, I think it's interesting that I've seen a couple of posts on DU where we have been mentioned by some RW Rag in their "Online" ravings.

People are starting to notice there's a new Dem group bubbling up to counter the hard core RWingers.

It's taken over two years.......but hey........even bad publicity gets folks thinking.
