President Obama nominates Sonia Sotomayor for SCOTUS

The American Bar Association has rated Sotomayor as a moderate. Even so, some on the radical right are already criticizing her nomination. Senator Orrin Hatch said today that Sotomayor may be an "activist judge" and that just because he voted to confirm her to other courts doesn't mean he will now.

Mitt Romney, possibly thinking ahead to GOP fundraising for a 2012 run for President called Sotomayor's nomination "a troubling nomination." Mike Huckabee, erroneously calling Sotomayor, "Maria Sotomayor" has declared he is against her nomination. Radio talk show entertainer, Rush Limbaugh called Sotomayor a "racist."

Some conservatives, however, like President Obama's pick to replace Souter. Conservative Libertarian Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch was interviewed by MSNBC's Tamron Hall today and had this to say:

Janet Murguia, president of LaRaza which is the largest civil rights and advocacy group for Latinos, said in an interview today, "If there's a perception that Republicans are unfairly attacking her or distorting her record, it could hurt Republicans. But I think the virtue of this decision by President Obama is based on substance and merit."
