GEORGE BUSH GAVE LICENSE TO TORTURE by Ditching War-Crimes Treaty
http://www.phxnews.com/fullstory.php?article=11329

Today's apologies and excuses from US administration and military officials, including George W. Bush, about abuse and murder of Iraqi POWs, are meaningless because Bush has exempted US citizens from prosecution under the Geneva Convention. That is why the abuses and murders occurred and will continue. Most people don't know, but Bush did this by withdrawing the US from the International Criminal Court (in The Hague) treaty. We have seen only the tip of the iceberg. HOW LONG CAN US SOLDIERS ENJOY THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS the US denies all others?

On this question hinges the unfolding scandal of US war crimes in Iraq and how to prevent future crimes. George Bush pronouncements, military investigations, independent (Amnesty, Human Rights, Red Cross) investigations, and Congressional investigations won't work. US CITIZENS MUST BE MADE SUBJECT TO TRIAL BY THE ICC TO STOP THESE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY.

The George Bush administration, in 2003, took the US out of the legal jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (which tries violations of the Conventions), putting US soldiers and citizens above international law -- one of the few countries to take such action. That is the reason US war crimes run rampant. However, the US and its soldiers will not be exempt very long from extra-legal reprisals if US war crimes continue. That is not logical.

ROGUE STATE: N. Korea? Saddam's Iraq? Iran? Russia? NO -- IT'S THE USA!

US stands with Somalia (which currently has no recognised government) as the only two countries in the world to refuse to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (ratification means the convention has to be incorporated into national law).

1. As a sidenote, here....
Is it not reasonable to argue that the Geneva Convention was ditched forever ago, by every freaking country that's been at war since?

5. You think the Iraq War is the first example of the GC being violated?
Do you?

6. Hell no. I just didn't think anyone *formally* opted out of the GC.

I also don't recall hearing of soldiers under the Clinton administration torturing anybody, do you?

Bush to my understanding formally opted out of protections for prisoners. That is a telling act.

4. And now we know
why these thugs were so adamant about avoiding the ICC in the Hague.
