Democrat intends to ride Iraq hurricane into office

WASHINGTON - John Kerry loves windsurfing, loves it so much he once made the cover of a glossy magazine devoted to the sport. As I report on his presidential campaign, it occurs to me that windsurfing symbolizes his political career — and the strategic theory that could bring him victory in November. For John Kerry doesn’t expect to be admired, let alone beloved. He doesn’t mind being labeled a “flip-flopper.” Indeed, windsurfing is just that: a constant maneuver to fill your sail. Kerry aims to catch the wind — and the drift of history. The war in Iraq is a hurricane, and Kerry hopes to ride it into office.

Kerry’s theory of this campaign is pretty straightforward: to be the guy people have no choice but to vote for on Nov. 2. Not because he has a stirring new vision (he doesn’t); not because he’s such a darned likable guy (he isn’t); but because circumstances are such that fair-minded “swing” voters have no choice but to pick him. He’s not running against the war, per se, but as the nobleman at the end of the Shakespeare play, a beacon of sanity on the battlefield.

Comment on Kerry pic. I think Kerry should dress like this. Always a white shirt. I think he should carry a briefcase and pull out notes to refer to. And put on his reading glasses when referencing notes.

He DOES have a stirring New Vision - it's called our Oil Independent Society with Education Funding, Balanced Budget and Medicare Reform

To compare Bush's lack of intelligence and morality to Kerry's abundance of knowledge on all issues is what FineWhore should be doing. Why doesn't Fineman question why aWol doesn't have any real press conferences? Or aWol inability to coherantly answer questions? Does FineWhore believe Junior should be given the questions in advance?

is only valuable as a sign that Bush is crumbling. Time to become a journalist who fearlessly criticizes the President(Democratic) again.

Note that this forced understatement and grudging analysis of Kerry is even more good news since Kerry is actually much better than that.

However, my truly liberal(moderately) local newspaper is having trouble getting clear viewpoints from the campaign on more than one sticky issue. Even if the slant if blinding and guiding them some of this is sticking for the moment. If I were Kerry's people I would have better relations and bolder statements to the local press. He will be the President. People do need confidence in communicating if local papers are going to back him. At present, what they are not facing is the Bush comedy show which is precisely what is making any reasoned policy statement difficult.

Worrying that Kerry is going to fall into the Iraq quagmire is like fearing Lieberman's candidacy. The situation will degrade to the point that Kerry will no option acceptable to the people except a pullout. Unlike Junior's way it won't be the bloodiest worst way possible and may even achieve goals the Bushistas never intended.

The President just totaled his scooter. What are Kerry's plans for the scooter? The press is avoiding holding Bush accountable for anything as if that logical step does not exist. Yet they do want to hear something clear and reassuring form Kerry and they are not always forthcoming to would be friends. (Messenger Post Upstate NY papers).

This admin. is so wrapped up in secrecy, how the hell can Kerry put forth any sort of detailed plan or vision about anything whatsoever until he's actually in office and has the authority to open the books and see what the fuck is REALLY going on?

It's like being in a totally pitch black room and knowing you need to find the door, but first you have to be given directions to the hidden light-switch so you can actually see the door.

He sees the writing on the wall but still takes every opportunity to slime Kerry and propogate the anti-Kerry propoganda. He's still earning his RNC paycheck, but he just doesn't want to be caught w/ his pants down when Bush loses.

Fineman, here's a hearty FUCK YOU. Kerry has more qualifications and more likeability and more vision in a single atom of his being than the entire Chimp administration could ever amass if they were immortal. Howie, you're a dirty, filthy fucking whore.
