"Calls for the head of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld miss the central point: President Bush is ultimately responsible for all that's gone wrong in Iraq.
It's hard to imagine how the war effort could have gone more badly. Some 14 months after invading Iraq to oust Saddam Hussein from power, the United States' reputation inside Iraq and in the rest of the world has hit bottom. The revolting and indefensible images of Americans torturing Iraqi prisoners are burned into the world's memory, where they will long undermine any effort to cast the United States as a beacon of morality and human rights. The faulty intelligence that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction, and the selective interpretation of other intelligence, has wounded U.S. credibility with our allies."

"It's unbelievable that some supporters of the administration have taken to comparing the abuse of Iraqi prisoners to the heinous acts regularly perpetrated by Saddam Hussein, an effort to picture U.S. abuses as small. Such desperate comparisons don't say much about the United States' role as a leader of the free world.
The Bush administration's record in Iraq won't change with a single firing or resignation. The ultimate judges of the president's performance on this and other issues will be the American people. Their decision comes Nov. 2."
You can look out the window of the Everett Herald building and see the USS Abraham Lincoln. They are almost next door neighbors. Everett is home to the Lincoln.
Thought this was stinging against the occupant liar for this paper. Hope there is more like this to come. It is way past time.
