Josh Marshall calls Darrell Issa "execrable opportunist"

I haven't said much about the California recall race so far because, frankly, I couldn't think of much to say. And that tends to be my standard. But now that things have totally gone out of control I guess I should wade in a bit. That's especially so since there's one bit of news today that seems unquestionably good. That's the news that Rep. Darrell Issa is out of the race. Issa, you'll remember, is the execrable opportunist who got this whole bit of ridiculousness underway, funding much of the effort on his own dime, figuring it was his only way of slipping into statewide office without having to bother with that majority of the vote peskiness.
According to press reports, Issa had to fight back tears when making his announcement today. Now at first I figured Issa was tearing up because he'd spent such a big chunk of change on what's turning out to be someone else's party. But then I realized that wasn't it at all. He was just thinking how much more money he's going to have to spend to replace that sheet set and mattress and that fancy duvet because of the mess from that decapitated horse head he found in his bed this morning.
I mean, where do you think the call that got Issa outta this race came from? Yeah, me too ...

"Excretable Opportunist"? For verily I say unto you, Issa is a piece of merde.

"execrable opportunist"... nice ring to it. but imho it better describes mr terminator. issa poured millions of his own money into the recall campaign. whether you like it or not, that showed commitment. ahnold has done nothing but tease the public, and as far as we know spent not one dime, while raking in valuable publicity that would benefit him personally no matter whether he decided to run or not.

at the last minute, ahnold breezes in with his announcement, thereby shafting his faithful "friend" riordan.

everyone is laughing at issa's tears now, but to me that shows he was putting his heart on the line. whereas this run is just a joke to ahnold.
