Blair's lust for power goes on
RASHMEE Z AHMED

TIMES NEWS NETWORK< FRIDAY, AUGUST 08, 2003 06:39:04 PM >

LONDON: He's long been the charismatic, near-evangelical leader of his country. He's led it into and through controversial wars. And there's long been feverish speculation about when, if ever, he'll hand over power. Not embattled President Charles Taylor of Liberia, but teflon-chipped Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain.

On Friday, according to arguably the highest authority in the country, The Times, London, Blair has finally decided when to go.

But don't hold the front-pages. Blair, the youngest of the current crop of world leaders to hold continuous office and win two landslide elections, reportedly has no plans to leave Downing Street until mid-way through the next parliament.

And just last week, at the height of controversy over Iraqi weapons inspector David Kelly's death, Blair cheekily told a watching world his appetite for power was "undiminished".
