"Tea Party" protesters descend on state's Capitols
Edited on Fri Apr-16-10 10:31 AM by mgc1961
From Atlanta:

Georgians angry about high taxes, soaring budget deficits and the federal health care overhaul descended on the state Capitol on Thursday for a tea party that was half conservative pep rally and half a warning to Washington.

“We are going to save this county,” Ginni Thomas, chairwoman of Liberty Central and wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, told 3,000 sign-waving people. “We have got to stop this. This is not a game.”

Thomas lambasted runaway government spending and so-called cradle-to-grave entitlements, which many in the tea party movement believe are undermining the future of the nation. She received one of the strongest receptions during the three-hour rally when she led the crowd in a rousing cheer.

Poster's note: If I correctly recall, CNN reported yesterday that 20,000 people were expected. No doubt Glenn Beckistanians will claim 200,000 attendees.

From Nashville:

The raw emotion that defined Tax Day tea party rallies a year ago gave way to a new theme on Thursday, when hundreds gathered at events staged across Middle Tennessee.

Last year's rallies gave voice to pent-up rage over the direction of the federal government; this year's organizers and participants — who were drastically fewer in number and generally more subdued — concentrated on education and organization in advance of this fall's election.
"People have a real thirst for asking, 'What is my role in government and what is the role of government?' " said Ben Cunningham, an anti-tax activist from Sumner County and host at several tea party protests around Nashville Thursday.

Rallies in Nashville, Mt. Juliet, and Hendersonville featured activists, talk show hosts, conservative politicians, and country music star John Rich.

On the steps of the state Capitol Thursday afternoon, Rep. Glen Casada, a College Grove Republican, encouraged a crowd of about 200 people to educate themselves.

Poster's note: Judging from the insert, they all appear to be in that one photo. A very impressive turn-out. And the encouragement to get educated was a very nice touch. :silly:

1. Morons protesting access to the very land they were using for protest
If they were able to abolish taxes, they would no longer have roads on which to travel to the bagger rallies nor would they have free land on which to hold those rallies.

2. Since the GOP
with all the corporations and their millions don't want to pay taxes they have brainwashed the simpletons in this country that all our problems come from paying taxes. These INTELLIGENT (as the wonderful AP Poll shows) know that we don't need no darn taxes to take care of this country.

Why it takes care of itself. All the services this country provide are paid for by taxes. So we wouldn't have the military to protect us first, any country with those terrorists they are filled with abject fear of would over run us in a minute. We would be forced to eat food that was putrid, rotten, we would have to barter for our gasoline. I think the bunch of idiots who listen to Fox are liars as well. Anybody who pretends to be educated and doesn't realize that we need taxes is on the way to be phased out of existence.

5. '...as long as there is a pistol in my night stand, I will be free.' - Van Gorder

Arkansas tea bagger at the podium at some point during their rally of 'hundreds'- wow, numbers falling dramatically to 'hundreds' now.

I guess I could be attacked that I took it out of context, here is the full line:
“As long as there is blood in my veins … and air in my lungs and a pistol in my night stand, I will be free,” Van Gorder said.

So I guess he has 3 out of 3 - chalk one up for the 'free' column and go ahead and chalk a mark up for the 'dumb' column as well.
Afterall, you can't have 'freedom' without 'free' and 'dumb' and his statement proves it.
