Blumenthal Maintains Strong Standing and Leads
McMahon by Wide Margin
Connecticut Senate Race
A recent survey1 of Connecticut voters conducted May 19 - 20 shows that despite the efforts of Linda McMahon’s campaign, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has withstood the attacks of the past week very well. Blumenthal maintains strong standing and holds a wide margin over McMahon as a result of his strong record and deep connection to the people of Connecticut, who know him best. His deep roots and connection with people in Connecticut make him a very tough guy to knock down. He won a resounding victory at his party’s convention this pastFriday, and the recent survey shows broad support among the electorate. Nearly all of Connecticut, 91 percent of likely voters, are familiar with the news regarding Blumenthal’s military service, but his personal and professional standing remain very strong based on his record and years of service as Attorney General. Among Connecticut voters, Blumenthal holds a strong 55 percent favorable to 28 percent unfavorable ratio, and a large
majority of voters, 62 percent, rate his job performance as Attorney General as either excellent or good.
As a result, Blumenthal continues to have broad support among voters in the race for U.S.
Senate. In a head to head matchup against McMahon, Blumenthal holds a 15-point lead, 55 –40 percent. Blumenthal has deep support among Democrats and holds an 11-point lead among unaffiliated voters, 52 – 41 percent. In addition, Blumenthal peels off nearly one-fourth of Republican voters with 23 percent—much higher than candidates typically tend to attract from
their opponents’ base. McMahon, after spending nearly $15 million and running television ads for much of the past 7 months, has failed to connect with the state’s voters. In spite of her heavy advertising, her negatives now outweigh her positive ratings and her standing is a lackluster 28 percent favorable to 31 percent unfavorable. Further evidence of Blumenthal’s personal connection to Connecticut comes when voters consider which candidate, Blumenthal or McMahon, will stand up for regular people and which candidate will be effective and get things done in the Senate. On the quality of which candidate
stands up for regular people, Blumenthal holds a 28-point lead over McMahon, and on which candidate will be effective and get things done, Blumenthal holds a 23-point lead. Blumenthal’s deep connection with people in Connecticut, along with his record and commitment to fight for regular people in Washington, put him in a strong position to win this race.
