Senate Takes Up 'Emergency' War Bill Despite Obama Pledge to End Practice

Yes, this is from Fox, yet it is good reporting. Actually, I am surprised they ran it but on the other hand, Republicans have been clambering the fiscal responsibility.

Senate Takes Up 'Emergency' War Bill Despite Obama Pledge to End Practice

FOXNews.com

A year after President Obama pledged to end the practice of funding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq with "emergency" spending bills, the Senate is taking up a $60 billion request that would do exactly that.

A year after President Obama pledged to end the practice of funding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq with "emergency" spending bills, the Senate is taking up a $60 billion request that would do exactly that.

The spending bill, which includes $33 billion for the two wars in addition to disaster relief funds and aid for Haiti, is running headlong into concern from war-weary Democrats and deficit-conscious Republicans.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called the bill a "heavy lift" in her chamber. But the Senate, which is taking up the request first, could be the scene of a spending stand-off between Democrats and Republicans.

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., plans to offer an amendment requiring Congress to offset the cost of the package with spending cuts elsewhere. He slammed the administration for continuing to use the "emergency" supplemental to fund the wars -- by designating the spending bill as "emergency," Congress avoids having to find a way to pay for it. ..............

1. Shouldn't a done it in the first place
One more reason we shouldn't still be there. It's costing too much. All the lip service about how we couldn't afford the public option, and how we have to cut entitlements, but we can "find" $60 billion for this.

2. Because People are Getting Rich

There are too many pockets being lined to end the war. 65 years after the end of WWII, why are we still stationed in Germany? 15 years after we entered Bosnia, and later Kosovo, why are we still there? 9 years after we overthrew the Taliban in Afghanistan, why are we still there? Why are we still in Iraq?

The answer to all those questions is not “National Security” but rather “because people are getting rich off of it”. And those people pay Congress plenty of $$$ to keep it that way.

3. Where was Fox?
During the entirety of the Bush administration where emergency war funding bills were a yearly event?

4. They could start saving by cutting Coburn's job.
I have to laugh when these sanctimonious pubs screech offset the cost with spending cuts. Dubya must be smirking on that one.

7. Republicans always yell about fiscal responsibility but are incapable of the integrity involved

in seeing it through. They are COMPLETELY dishonest about HOW the debt grew, WHO benefits from that debt, and about their entire purpose in DC - they are not there to represent the people or protect the Constitution...they are there to further the corporate agenda of global fascism...they know it and count on their voters to be too dumb to see it.

Odd reach to make this story about the Repubs being fiscally responsible. They created just about every mess that has cost this nation's treasure and blood for over the last 5 decades.

How did you come to your conclusion? Reading your posts over the last few months, it is obvious you dislike Obama and most Democrats while bending over backwards to understand the 'angry' at government groups, as long as they are angry at THIS administration.
