My thoughts of Memorial Day
Edited on Sun May-30-04 04:41 PM by donhakman
On this funerial lamentable memorial day
We go out and grill some meat.
To die in war is great some say.
But to me death is defeat.

(Two 700 year old veterans talking)

Remember the Maine
Main what?

Remember the Alamo?
I thought you had it!

Remember the Revolution
Whose?

If we lived 700 years
instead of 70
Wars would be few
but Veterans day
would be HUGE

................

We never call wars

a war anymore.

They are operations.

The careful, skillful,

sterile removal

of infected foreign matter.

We shall call this one

Operation

Moment of truth.

Bless the "Father"

the "son"

and the holy roast.

.....................

Roses are red
violets are too
In War they're
the color of
blood gore and goo

Good times , End times
As events turn worse
It's too late to learn
If you're breathing the curse
It may be our turn
With sorrow to come
Still the Dark Ages
Were Golden for some

To kill my child
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The baby's thrilled to walk
Her eyes surprised
with earthly delight.
I melt with pride at her first free flight.
On TV Dick Cheney chokes
"We'll lose more lives here
than those overseas"
I believe he speaks of disease.
A briefing at work today
would make an athiest pray
I am but bare brittle bone
"Hon, can you put her on the phone?"
An age of conquistadors
When tribes were murdered
9 out of 10 from disease
That cold history, now makes me freeze
In sane times the insane mom
would drown a helpless child.
"Sweetie you're fine" I pretend
Could I watch her agony to the end?
Behind lead eyes I keep secret
If she's a victim
And the crime is small pox
Could I end her torture at all costs?
Baby remember when you walked?
Shhh it'll be fine.
Here honey take this, you will sleep.
I'll be next, I'll not have long to weep,

............................

exerpt:
I never will will forget the sound
of firemen pounding up the stairs
as we came running down
They climbed higher and higher
they said you're fine keep going down
as they went up to the fire

COLLATERAL VERBAGE

It used to be shell shocked
Then it was mental breakdown
Now it is the post traumatic syndrome game
whites, red necks, Caucasions
blacks, colored, African Americans
ladies now feminists fiddle with hyphans in their name
It used to be 'we'
Then it became every man woman and child
Now it is "all of you, be you christian, muslim or jew
It used to be war
named after conquerors or numbered like WW II
Count the syllables in our war today, it won't be a few.
It used to be slain
then it was casualties
now it is collateral damage
It used to be A-Bomb
Now here's the exception
its a device, how nice, that we can manage
Stay in line
You're OK if you are a REAL American
Now when asked to swallow propoganda you are to be "respondsible and true"
In simpler times
there were phrases that said it all
Now we need a verbal * that will replace ALL the acceptable gender neutral non threatening politically correct phrases.
* your small pox, * your crusade, * your slogans, * you.

......................

If there is a gun
you try to ignore
in act 2, it will
go off in act 4
We watched the Bond films
multi billionaires
took over the world
but there were errors
Somehow Bond lives on
The bomb countdown ends
007
Its life he defends
Have 'THEY' suceeded?
Bond in real life failed?
We all watched the films
I think we're all nailed

WAR IN THE ABSTRACTS

American Civil War
It's about the Union
and later the slaves

WW II
Nationalism gone beserk
Another religious crusade

Korean War
Come out with your hands up
Go back with your hands up

Viet Nam
Ten Hut
Reverse...Charge

Balkan War
An imposed time out
on another religious crusade

Gulf War
To contain a dictator
Go back to Go we'll collect your $200

America's New Improved War
Against terrorism...for Freedom
Another oiligious crusade

The Earth is attacked almost every 6,000 years
They have no time to waste.
Extinctions and impacts means they are in a hurry
The race there burns, especially below the waist.
Somewhere in the Triffid constellation
lives an ancient planet.
It is safe from asteroids and gamma rays.
So perfect, God could not plan it.
The life that evolves there takes its time
and remembers all the lessons.
It has abolished wars, and now freely explores.
Their race is all female - simply less sons.

...................................

Ireland has two religious persuasions
Catholic and Protestant churches
both share the patron St. Patrick
Both share the same God and savior.

Yet they want to kill each other.

India made a 2,000 mile journey
to penetrate Asia and push up the Himalayas.
It takes religion to threaten nuclear war
at the geologic Kashmir border

Need I mention the Jews and Arabs?

What religious persuasion are you?

Who persuaded you?

Who persuaded them?

A wish for peace
is like a poem
no one understands
it is a watercolor in the rain

To die for peace
is a delusion
seen clearly by the soldier
on his last ragged breath

To live for peace
is a wish some die for.
That we dream of
while at war

The prayer for peace
is for hypocrites
it is always for "our side"
whoever those killers may be

Realists and idealists
prey upon each other.
The certainty of war
verses hope for peace

The years our nation
has not been at war
since 1776
is none

Some distance themselves
from the facts of war
and others pass it down
from weary father to anxious son

The shortest distance
between two points
is a marvelous invention
and its war time application

So the next time
you hear Peace on Earth
scream "Bullshit
Never was , Never be !"

No one wants to hear that,
not pacifists or hawks
you will even have to fight
for simple honesty

Again it is the season
For whatever it is worth
for good will to men and Peace on Earth
Quote the poet

"Never was Never be"

..............................

Heros are men. Heroine is a drug

A flight attendant stopped a mid air bombing
She attacked the bomber and put out the fuse.
After she lay bitten and bleeding
Passengers helped to bind the bomber.
Will a Congressional medal of honor be given?

No, but money will be given to coporations, Ceo's
and accountants to prop up the system
Give a wink and nod that airline explosions are an accident.
We know better just as the people know
they owe their lives to this stewardess.

She was the absolute last line of defense
She only did her job it only makes sense
The men in Congress will do theirs.
Making compromises
that are seldom fair

Quatrians for a new American Century by Nauseadamus)

#1
A family in the land of eagles has two way mirrors
like bookends holding up each generation.
The young see themselves marching forever forward.
The old see 8 generations of military service behind.

#2
They know the value of early marriage and many sons.
Once there was a single strand left to carry the gun.
The family carried on since Tom knew how to run.
The staunch pride of patriotism is the family hallmark.

#3
A dictator orders war without end.
Duty is in the hearts of eagles.
Flying too near the dragon and bear
new alliances are formed.

#4
War support threatened. The military knows the power of grief.
Motivation swells at 36 moons they lose a commander and chief.
The family loves their own fallen heroes and new mighty martyr.
They despise those for peace. Each side thinks it is smarter.
