Iraq Says Ready To Buy Czech-Made Combat Jets
Iraq is ready to buy light attack aircraft, offered for sale by the Czech republic earlier this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said after talks with his Czech counterpart in Baghdad.

The visit to Baghdad by Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas, which began on Monday, focused on bilateral economic and political cooperation.

In mid-April, the Czech Republic announced its plans to offer Iraq 24 L-159 combat aircraft and help in modernizing the Iraqi helicopter fleet.

The single-seat L-159 ALCA is a light multi-role combat aircraft designed for a variety of air-to-air, air-to-ground and reconnaissance missions.

Oh don't whine. Iraq is in the prosess of getting/bying a lot of nice, used F16 from the USAF reserve forces.. They are modernized, but still "old" aircraft by most of the standard the rest of the world are living after.. Even NRoAF have better F16 than Iraq. (we have in fact with the MLU4 upgrade we have a better fighting force than most of USAF are in their arsenal for the moment:P..

But I guess Iraq are in no shape and form, to get the newest tool in the toolboox, the F35 JSF.. As it looks, not even US have the money to finish THAT project, and it looks like it can be a horrbiel expensive turkey for US, and for anyone with a interst in the program.

Wel, at least the L-159-ALCA is a decent light multi-role combat aircraft, with a lot of capability and equipment with modern weapons and tools, far better than Iraqi Airforce ever had before.. And they are in deep need of modern airforce if they ever is to keep control over Iraq in the future.. As the US forces are leaving, and Iraqi soldiers and government have to make their own future and security, they also need a lot of new equipment to make it happend..

And the L-159 ALCA is also a nice looking aircraft.. Not excactly SEXY, but nice looking... Even tho I figure the range can be a trouble for the Iraqi Airforce..
