Russian President Medvedev Due to Attend Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Inauguration Ceremony

Hamsayeh.Net - Highest-ranking Russian officials are due to attend the inauguration ceremony of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization told reporters, Bushehr NPP will be launched and the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev or Prime Minister Vladmir Putin will join Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the opening ceremony to be announced soon.

Last month Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced the opening of Bushehr within weeks. The plant has been undergoing strict final security testing for past several months and its now ready for launching.

Busher is Iran’s first major nuclear power plant built with Russian assistance. Russia enjoys vast technical and theoretical knowledge in peaceful implementation of nuclear related installations and is a pioneering country in this field.

‘Our emphasis always lies on watching the power plant safety issues, and the safety-related processes are underway now. God willing, we will start power generation in the plant and will connect it to the national grid over time and after we are fully assured,’ Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoun Abbassi Abbasi told reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting.
