Should Democratic candidates sign a pledge
to defend Social Security and Medicare if they want our votes? I used to take that as a given for any Democratic pol. Not any longer.

1. Why not? Grover Norquist makes all the Republicans
sign a No New Taxes pledge, and they stick to it because they are scared of his organization and the Teabaggers. Maybe Democratic politicians should be scared of us in the same way.

2. Yes, among a few other things.
ACTUAL Health Care Reform, end all useless wars, civil rights for everyone/marriage equality, end the ridiculous "war" on the Cannabis plant, etc.

5.  Be careful there
If too many things get in we'll fall to fighting among ourselves about what didn't get in. You know what we're like. It's best to keep it simple.

3. You mean like what the Republicans did? You want us to be like THEM???
That is, in control and getting the stuff we want done?

WORKS FOR ME!

This "meeting the other side halfway as a starting position..." hasn't been working too well.

4. If we don't stand for something, we'll fall for anything
Shame that Obama hasn't learned this valuable lesson yet.

6. Yes.
And it should be real specific with no ambiguity. Cause you know the talking points are gonna be that these changes/cuts are intended to save these programs (See the Republican response to the backlash to the Ryan Plan)

Speaking of which, after that attempt at political suicide by the Repugs... why why why would Obama even consider letting them off the hook by making Dems share the blame/ fall on the same sword? What am I missing? I sincerely don't get this on any level.

7. I think so, but it will never happen
3rd way Dems pledge to IGNORE their base in favor of moneyed interests. I'm not sure why anyone thought the tent was big enough for THAT to be a good idea.

8. No. The only way democrats get elected is to triangulate. Being everything to everyone.
is the Democratic way.

9. Sign a pledge to defend the poor, sick, children, and elderly
I would go with that. I think the majority of American would too, as opposed to the Repukes pledge to the "minority" traditional family, and the RICH CORPORATIONS.

10. Such a pledge should not be limited to the protection of Social Security and Medicare but should
also include rejection of the DLC, Third Way and No Labels politics. But most importantly there should be a pledge to abandon ALL of the slave trade agreements.
