Scandal lies in reasons real story hasn't come out
Lost in the big news of Arnold Schwarzenegger's filing as a candidate has been the real story: The story of how the fifth-largest economy in the world (California) was bankrupted and destabilized by the president and vice president of the United States in partnership with their largest campaign contributor, Ken Lay of Enron.
This bankruptcy and destabilization now has the potential of unseating a democratically elected executive in order to replace him with one of their partisans. The fact that this conspiracy to wreck a state has not been the centerpiece of stories on what's really going on in California is a scandal in itself. If this way of governance becomes a pattern (and, indeed, the impeachment of President Clinton and the redistricting of Texas seem to indicate a pattern), the United States is in dire peril from the enemy within -- which now controls the reins of government.
This is truly the story of the century, as critical to the survival of the United States as the Union victory in the Civil War.
