Here’s what Theodore Roosevelt said less than 100 years ago:
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public".

Theodore Roosevelt wrote an editorial for the Kansas City Star in May of 1918, following Woodrow Wilson's sweeping crackdown against dissent after the American entry into WWI.

8. that was in the days when the Republicans were a real party and
not just a corporate shill. Today's repukes bear no resemblance to the party of Roosevelt and Lincoln.
