Kerry vs. Dean: BushCo. laughs its collective ass off...
The Kerry/Dean stuff is running veeeeeeeery high this week here at DU. I'll admit, I'm not innocent of dirtying my hands with this crap as well.

Here's the problem: This is exactly what Rove and the rest of the gang are hoping for. With the amount of ammo we're giving them, they'll be able to sleepwalk through the general election using smear campaigns that WE PROVIDED THEM!!!

Bush has to go, we know this. But if you think electing someone like Kerry would move our party further to the right, think again. After 4 more years of Bush, our party could be nearly extinct or a big collection of Zell Millers. Calling Kerry, "Lerch" or bitching about his lack of fire does nothing....

And for those who rip on Dean for being short and slinging the shit around, the guy is showing some balls and is causing a ton of excitement and interest. He's a good guy, and he'd be good for this nation....

Oh omniscient one?

2. Screw 'em both - vote Gephardt
Dean and Kerry are just another part of the GOP-Lite, pro-corporate wing. Gephardt is the one that stands apart on economic issues.

Kucinich, I'll freely admit, is better than Gephardt. He's the real deal.

21. And you won't vote for the Real Deal because....
...because he's unelectable?

...because his campaign machine isn't big enough?

...because he's that rarest of all things, an honest politician?

If you can't vote your ideals in a PRIMARY election, when can you?

7. I know, many others know...
...but there are still plenty that jump into the flamebait to stoke the fires. It's usually some "a sincere question about X" from mr 12 posts that starts off, "I was banned last time for asking sincere questsions, I'm a lifelong democrat, but I really want to know, has X been smoking crack and molesting children...i'd really like to support X, but blah blah blah"...

Most of the ppl I know have said they may be campaigning for X, and their preference may be for X, but Y is a fine candidate as well, and they'd be happy to give Y their vote come election time...

The rest of the crap is just obnoxious, divisive flamebait...

8. Even though I'm for Kerry, I will support Dean if he wins the nomination
I disagree. Once the primary fight is decided, the Dems will unite behind Kerry or Dean to beat Bush no matter what the odds. (Other candidates like Lieberman or Gephardt would crack us in half, while Sharpton would lose a lot of Dems obviously). No one else appears to have a chance. Even if Gore came back he would lose New Hampshire this time to Kerry or Dean and he would be done. Gore pulled out when Kerry appeared 15 points ahead of him in a NH poll.

All of this infighting is actually tuning everyone up for the general election and making every issue crystal clear among the Democratic Activists. There are very few Dean activists who would then go work for Nader, as that elects Bush, which of course means the end of American democracy. Dean supporters will be too smart to fall for THAT ONE.

Just as long as they remain fairly civil to each other and battle on the issues and don't get personal, the Dems will unite under their hatred of Bush and all the primary fights will organize us, on the Web and off, like we have never seen before.

Besides, now that Kerry has come very close to Dean's health care plan and Dean has nearly the same plan as Kerry on environmental matter and both supported the invasion of Iraq with a UN mandate, there really is little left to argue about except for experience on foreign policy, and Dean's support of the NRA, Star Wars and the Defense budget.

Those differences pale in comparison with the differences with Bush. Plus Bush is so scary now, it will scare even young Dems into action.
Rove does not the Dems to help him, he's got a giant database of everything the Dems have ever said. This kind of infighting is healthy--as long as the candidates themselves don't get personal. It gets everybody ready, from the candidates to the politicos to the workers.

IMAGINE PRESIDENT KERRY!!

10. any vice-versa over here!
I'm a Deaner, but Kerry's definitely in my top 3, which is why it's driving me nuts to see two candidates that I like and will cheerfully support in 2004 doing the RNC's work by tearing eachother to shreds.

14. Dean's my choice, but I'd vote for Kerry, easily
I urge everyone to go and get involved in their candidate's campaign. Put any energy normally put into denigrating other candidates into building up your candidate. I'm organizing a Dean Meetup in my community for August 6.

BTW: I love that photo of Kerry with Lennon!

Whatever happened to that great shot of you flashing the peace sign in front of the Statue of Liberty? Were you and John Lennon twins separated at birth? Inquiring mind wants to know. LOL.

19. Dean is more representitive of my viewpoint,
but winner of the primary ultimately gets 100% of my support. That's the message that Rove & Co needs to understand. The Freepers of the world love the bickering that they see here, but their glee over our debates is short-sighted at best. When it comes down to whomever versus Bush, our voices will be as one.

Their days of smug satisfaction are coming to an end.

20. a sign that they are not uniters
The two of them have not helped the democratic party by their sniping.... and they should cut it out.

My seeing is Dean is more a problem than kerry for starting this bitch slapping, but that it has not been instantly deflected does not reflect well no matter who starts slapping.

Kucinich is the real deal... any candidate who has the balls not to become a rove-impersonater by dividing the people is worthy of the job.... i'm sorry for dean/kerry... they should have a boxing match with 300 ounce gloves... and when they're finished pillowing each other, a hug and lets get on with issues within a community to unseat a criminal regime.

23. Who the hell cares what those sociopaths in the white house think....
the process to nominate a democrat is happening...discussion, even fighting is part of it...its not a love fest...when we have one person, the democrats will need to unite around that one person...and we will defeat that bush league crowd.

So those that laugh last, laugh best.

24. There ain't nothing more offensive
than those who sit high and mighty while getting their blows in.

This is the way it is, sparring with the Kerry troops has consolidated my resolve behind Dean. And a quick glance at the latest DU poll for the candidates is the true reflection of the standing aside from all the loud rhetoric dominating these threads by the henchmen of the Kerry brigade. I note that when you get tit for tat, that's is when you make overtures of can't we all just get along.

22. I'm excited about both Kerry AND Dean.
And anyone who thinks Kerry lacks fire hasn't heard his "No true conservative would......" speech. What a great idea. Instead of fighting conservatives, he's trying to get them on board. I personally think the field of candidates is very promising. Kerry, Dean, Clark (if he ever declares) and Edwards in nearly any combination will be unbeatable. Keep your chin up!
