MP3s and Energy
There is a war going on right now between the consumer and the music industry. The advent of technology has brought us the MP3 file. Compressed music easily copied. Peer to Peer sharing has allowed the consumer to become their own distribution network. This has caused the music industry no end of trouble.

The music industry had maintained a lock on the music we hear. They have attempted to cut production and marketting costs by creating specific niche bands addressing specific markets. Unfortunately musical taste is not so easily created and thus the music the major labels attempt to push has attrophied. At the same time MP3s have enabled people to find their own music and exchange their files with each other. Thus the combined effect has been devestating in the industry.

The corporations still have not reduced their prices on product they were found guilty of colluding with each other to keep the prices artificially high. They once commanded the industry with an absolute control. But once the people got the ability to distribute the music on their own chaos struck. They have retaliated with law suits against 13 year old girls. Attempting to beat their customer base into compliance.

The energy industry faces a similar crisis. If they put research into renewable energy sources the people will eventually be able to develop their own distribution networks. If the means to create our own energy is developed we can disconnet from their grid. Thus the concerted effort of their research is to control any new energy source that may be created. It has little to do with the creation of the energy. It has everything to do with keeping the means out of the peoples hands.

As technology advances more and more industries are going to be faced with this issue. As the means of production becomes lower and lower in cost it becomes a matter of source information to produce a product. The corporations life is staked to remaining between the initial creator of an idea and the public. It is against the corporations interest for us to be free of them.

The current business model revolves around how to addict the public to a particular product or service. Longevity of a product is the last thing they want. If they design something that lasts the life of a consumer they can only sell one product. They need to consistantly take a peace of you on a regular basis to survive.

At some point the corporate entity ceases to serve humanity which is the original reason it was created. If it no longer serves the people the people serve it. A change is coming. Its just a question of who winds up on top.

1. good analogy

We need a massive turning away from the corporate trolls
that really do want to enslave us all. At this stage of the
game it is do or die for them and they will do everything
possible to win. Until people decide that total independence
from these leaches is the only option we will continue to
live under their thumb.

Anyway, thanks for posting this Az.

2. Make your own music. Get together with friends, bring beer, food,
and maybe some bud. Have fun, enjoy making your own music. Screw the industry. Music belongs to you, it is part of what makes you human.

And now for something completely different:

Get up and march around the breakfast table.
