SOME posters on this board are parents. MANY people here have parents. I assume you're including them too Mr. Presumptuous

This is possibly the stupidest reply in what is the stupidest thread I've seen since I've joined this forum.

6. Who knows why anyone in their right mind would vote repuke.
I'm guessing our support of gays doesn't help us with these voters. Also, they might mistakenly believe we are the party of high taxes and teachers unions and affirmative action. I have no idea why anyone would vote repuke. Doubtless, people know by now that repukes destroy the economy, abolish civil rights, sacrifice our young soldiers, and lie.

Not only is it not true, it's a stupidly worded assumption.

This family of 5 children has a mother and father who have been life long Democrats coming from a family of life long Democrats.

So, are you saying that the 90% of the black community which votes Democrat have no children????

13. apparantly they think its best for their families. Why ?
the real why is how come the Dems are unable to convince them otherwise ? Well, besides Clinton and Carter. We have bad salesmen most of the time or a message that they don't see as pertianing to them.

Clinton overcame that. Edwards can overcome that too. I don't see others who can. Maybe Dean but I suspect he'll begin to fizzle out as we get in to the serious part of the campaign.

16. Faulty Premise
What if I were to ask "why do most left-handers vote Republican?"

Would everybody scramble to come up with an explanation why?

(They must be right brain thinkers, and therefore unable to understand nuance, etc, etc).

I would hope not. You would say--why the heck do you believe that most left-handers vote Republican?

So, show us the evidence. DO most married w/children vote Republican? How do you know? What are the margins (50.1 % vs. 49.9%, for example)? What economic class are we talking about here--since I'm sure the numbers are different for different groups.

I have two young kids - the wife and I are both lifelong Dems. Not only that, but I've had years where I've made a respectable repig income (ie: low 6 figures) and that hasn't swayed me ONE bit in my political leanings.

Here's what it's about: repigs are the party of greed. They allow people to think that greed is OK. Looking out for Nunber One is the bottom line. Having compassion for the weaker or disadvantaged is being a pussy. It started with Reagan and his "every man for himself" approach and it hasn't stopped. The repigs have legitimized these feelings of greed. People who used to think that way but knew better than to say so openly now feel emboldened to do so. Yes, the repigs have given a nice shine to the crassness and tastelessness of millions of Americans, a home for those whose only concern in life is ME.

Repigs are generally uniformed and are great believers in myth. Myth will always trump reality with these types. The myth of the foreign boogie man; the myth of the underclass "stealing" from them; the myth of repigs being patriotic, good on the economy, etc (while Dems are not. Check the history books on THAT particular lie); they are afraid of their own shadows; and, most importantly, they have invested more time in effort into their own self-centered lives than they have in anything else. Deep down in the recesses of what's left of their souls, they feel a real guilt about what they're doing.

That's why they form a symbyotic relationship with Xtian fundamentalists. They are two political movements founded upon an unholy trinity that I like to call the "FIG," ie: Fear, Ignorance and Guilt. It's easy to openly be a shit when you can seek forgiveness from a higher authority every Sunday, though even the asking for forgiveness part is sort of going bye-bye with these types.

I don't think it's got anything to do with marriage. I think it's got to do with a lot more things - like how you were raised, what interests you personally, etc.

Just my $.02.

18. Wedge issues refocus attention from their economic self-interest
Right-wing politicians use wedge issues (gay marriage, flag burning, etc.) which cause many adults to focus on fears that their children might be forced to have a married gay teacher etc. That way, they pay less attention to the real agenda of the GOP: wealth transfers from the rest of us, to them.

23. Picked up this fact from the DLC pollster on C-Span last Monday
Edited on Sat Aug-02-03 07:32 PM by Starpass
Watched a few presenters at the DLC gathering and was real interested in their pollster who went into detail painting the picture of what is going on in America today. Saw that women, as we knew, were the big supporters of the Dems BUT that that changed drastically when they got married and had their first child. So, it's something that is a "change" for women in mid-stream.............are they fucking nuts??? That is when they need to fight even harder not just for the future of their kid but they certainly do not want repuke control if they end up like 51 or more percent of their kind who end up in divorce. Must be listening to the asshole husband instead of educating the moron (since the stats showed that we like don't even rate on the white male scale----which proves that white males are fucking morons--especially those who are being raped in the buttocks by Bush and company).

30. Parenthood makes morality more important
Republicans aren't nearly as moral as Democrats, but they know how important morality is to people with families, who tend to take religion more seriously when they have kids and are looking for help in raising them. And Republicans know that 80% of American voters identify themselves as "Christian", so they appeal to that 80%, posing as the party of morality in general and Christianity in particular.
I created "Liberals Like Christ" to persuade Christian Americans that they should be LIBERALS, too, and of course that means Democrats.
I also designed part of the web site to persuade LIBERALS that the way to fight misguided "Christians" who support the Republican Party is not to dismiss them, but to EDUCATE THEM, i.e. to direct them to http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/Christlike .

at http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org .
WE are the Answer to the "Christian Coalition" & "Religious Right" .
YOU are the way to get the word out, because unlike THEM,
WE are the friends of the POOR and the downtrodden,
who can't give US the kind of support the RICH give to THEM

34. pretty usual reasons

1. That age group is more white- over 80% white- than the makeup of the population as a whole, because the proportion of blacks has held constant (13-14%) over the past three generations but Hispanics and Asians have grown from 5% to 19% in the past 25 years.

2. Most people buy into a political line when they're in their 20s or 30s that they stick with. These are the white people who bought into the Republican arguments of the '70s and '80s and early '90s- that their tax money is going to black/brown people, and all Good Christians are perforce Republicans. Shaky families, where traditionalism is fraying but common sense hasn't taken hold, will lead the gullible to 'family values' scapegoat voting.

3. As a matter of reducing marital conflict in mediocre marriages, a good number of younger women go along with hubbie's opinion at the polling booth.

38. I agree that that's a flimsy stereotype, but
let's say that marrieds with kids vote GOP by a 60/40 margin (big deal). Why are they more likely than, say DINK couples or gays to vote GOP? Aside from more complex factors like racism and effective fearmongering by the GOP, the number one factor has to be conformity.

To be married with two kids, living in the burbs is the ultimate expression of conformity. It's just so much easier to watch the shows your neighbors/coworkers watch, got to the "restaurants" (Applebee's, The Olive Garden) that they go to, and to simply digest the sound bites and short news capsules uncritically, then vote GOP "like everybody else", than to think for yourself.

Conformity creates a comfort zone for some people. The rules for how to behave and think are clear, so if you follow them, you have the comfort of the knowledge that you won't be a pariah.

BTW, I'm also married with two kids, but I don't kive in the burbs, and I shudder at the thought. Not a proper environment for raising kids IMO, and I would NEVER, EVER vote GOP.
