3. Now I'm REALLY interested

I'll have to point this out to my Brethren at tomorrow's Stated Meeting. I wonder what they'll have to say about this. I don't know what the status of Turkish Masonry is in regards to American Masonry.

And a gun? That must be part of either Scottish Rite or York Rite, because I've never heard of anything like that being used in the Blue Lodges. Either that or it's a clandestine Lodge (clandestine means "not part of regular Masonry")

4. not Scottish
(don't ask me how I know this; I know more about Scottish Rite Freemasonry than a woman should)

5. York Rite is big on swords
Hmmmm....I'm checking with a few sources, but my gut is telling me that something isn't right about this.

6. Hey, Kef, I have a question about Masons:

does the order keep records about members such as birthdate, place of bith, maybe even parents' names? I'm asking because it would help a lot with genealogical research on one line of my family. I've got one great-grandfather on whom all I have is an obituary, which is a source of great info about his work and leisure activities. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. The temple he belonged to still exists and I'm sure they have records, but are they likely to help me?

7. I've heard that Lodges have been known to help out with genealogy before
I guess it would depend on the state and the Lodge. I'd call the Grand Lodge in your state and ask.

8. Thanks! I now live in the state where the

afore-mentioned Shrine temple is -- it's the big Yaarab Temple on Ponce de Leon in Atlanta -- so that should help in finding the right person to talk to.

9. Heck, just call the Grand Lodge.
Or the Shrine. Unlike Lodges, there's usually someone on phone duty there. At a Temple it's probably a full time employee. With Lodges, they're not open all the time, but the Grand Lodge is the business center of the state's Masonry, so you can usually find someone answering the phones during business hours.
