A Question for anyone living in the Big Apple.
I am reading Silent Theft, by David Bollier, a book on how the commons are being stolen. In the book Bollier tells about the New York City community gardens, the vacant lots that were turned into gardens by people of the various NYC communities. Then how after these gardens had turned around a lot of communities, Giuliani wanted to sell them to developers. Bollier says, that B. Midler gave a million to help save 112 of the gardens. What he doesn’t say is what happened to the rest?

Can you fill me in on the outcome? Did Giuliani prevail?

1. In Chicago, Mare Daley would sell them to the developers.
Who then would load housing without yards for kids to play in on the lots and sell them for $500,000 - $1,000,000.

Can't say about New York.

2. If I remember correctly,
he did prevail on many of the gardens. I think what people outside of New York fail to understand is that Guilliani was an awful, awful mayor. He was divisive and he sold us out to the real estate tycoon. Further, he gave away our surplus as tax credits to these tycoons, so when 911 came, this city had no financial cushion. And as lauded as he was for

3. cont...911, the people didn't
want him back as mayor. All the polls suggested that New Yorker did not want to overturn term limits to allow him to serve another term.
