Universal Care Is Right for Iraq?
Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson says Iraq should have universal health care, something the United States, the richest country in the world, does not provide. Who's more important to the Bush administration?

1. Does Halliburton have a medical/pharmaceutical division?

That's the only reason I can see the current administration pushing for it.

2. this is HILARIOUS
""Even if you don't have health insurance," said Thompson, who toured medical facilities in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Tikrit on Saturday and Sunday, "you are still taken care of in America. That certainly could be defined as universal coverage. Every American's health care is far superior to what the health care is in Iraq."

5. That earned a WTF? from me
If by "universal coverage," Tommy means, "if you have no money and no insurance and you haven't had preventative care and now that simple, easily treated infection has turned into something and you're bleeding through every orifice and somebody drags you in to an emergency room they can't kick you out," then, yes, we have universal coverage.

I won't argue that we have better health care available in the United States than they do in Iraq -- but the key word is available. Available and accessable are two different things. If you've got a good-paying job, with good benefits, or if you're independently wealthy, you probably can obtain spectacular health care.

But try telling that to the 40-million-plus who are uninsured. And to African Americans and Hispanics (http://www.democrats.org/news/200402260003.html) -- although Gov. Tommy has tried to hide to that embarrassing fact.

Hey, Gov. Tommy -- if all of us had the $1.5 to $3.7 million net worth, plus the government-sponsored health plan (ooh! Socialism!) that you do, we'd have universal health care.

3. $950 million??????
Geez, where's this money coming from???? If they've got that kind of dough laying around to give health care to all of Iraq, what's left for the uninsured, unable to get prescription coverage and out of work here??? While I wish the Iraqi's well (they didn't deserve what awol has put them through for the past year), one truly has to question why. We blow them to smithereens, destroy their infrastructure, continually kill and injure their citizenry (not too mention the hundreds of dead American soldiers and thousands wounded) and then pay for them to get what we can not?

This defies explanation. And the one given here, spoken by another Bush moron, defies logic.

I truly despise this administration.

4. $$950 Million sounds a lot better than one BILLION...
Its BS,they'll never pull it off for that amount and they know it but they don't want to put the word billion up for all to see.

I hope everyone in the World has adequate health care but this is GD bullshit. So eager to make sure the people in Iraq are all covered but could give a shit about Americans who don't have or can't afford health care. Damit.........
