Why do people want John McCain as VP?
It certainly mystifies me.

2. Because he is sane and may attract a crossover vote.
I'm not crazy about the idea, but beating GWB by an embarrassingly large margin would be fun!

5. Ever read about McCain in You Are Being Lied To?
I don't see any difference between him and any other Republican, war hero or not.

12. He is not a neo-con which makes him a slight bit better
but he is very Conservative on far to many issues.

6. I doubt it.. A LOT of the support he had when he ran was from
US crossing over to him.. We will already be voting for kerry.. The freepish types hate McCain with a passion.. I think McCain is just playing with us.. I cannot see him giving up his senate seat to play second fiddle to anyone..

3. Would he even accept?
I don't think so... though, I have heard him proposed as a potential Sec of Defense.

4. That depends.
If you are talking about policies, then I agree with you. McCain and I have many, many policy incompatibilities. However, if you are talking raw politics, then it is much more palatable. McCain would probably bring over 10-15% of Republican voters. This would result in a landslide for Kerry. From that perspective it makes sense.

9. Something to think about.
This might be a stupid question but, if McCain was Kerry's VP and Kerry won reelection in 2008, would McCain run for VP as repub.?

8. He is interesting but I think he has had his day.
To often he said things Bush and Co did not like yet he has a way of giving in on some things which makes him seem very weak. I do not know why would want him, I do not yet I sort of like him and he was one hell of a sailor for many years. He is getting a little old.

11. The BEST thing that it would accomplish in my view is
to start the country off in a new, unpartisan direction. I think it is a wonderful idea and I think it would unleash the more liberal aspects to McCain, BUT, I just don't see it happening.

13. Because they feel insecure about being Democrats.
They want to cover all the bases and find a "fool-proof" combination to make double-triple sure Karl Rove doesn't sneak the presidency away from them again.

15. He is anti-choice and pro-free trade
Despite his occasional liberal tendencies, there are very good reasons why McCain is a Repub and not a Democrat. When picking a VP, you have to keep in mind that it only takes one psycho's bullet, one heart attack, one scandal-ridden resignation, or one plane crash to catapult the VP into the presidency. Do the pro "McCain for VP"'ers REALLY want to run the chance of catapulting another anti choice free trader into the presidency?

16. I really, really doubt Kerry would formally offer McCain VP...
...however, the fact that McCain says he would consider it (if asked) is a big eff-you to the Shrub. He'd be the first major Republican to come out against the incumbent, making it okay for others to do so...

18. I don't understand either.
He's warmongering, he wants the draft, and worse yet...he's a republican. I say Kerry should go for Clark.

21. If I had a vote, and had sold myself on "ABB", McCain on the ticket
would be the last straw.

The Democratic Party would be finished. For me, at least.
