My discussion with my Republican neighbor.
I was talking to my next door neighbor a bit ago. He said he is Republican. Then he said he voted for Bush-1 the first time, but not the second. Did not vote for Bush-2, and would not. He said they are too tied up with oil and corporations!!! I told him I'd heard the same from other Republicans. Then he said Clinton was a good president, except for you know what, and left the country in pretty good shape. I spoke about the fundies a little and he agreed. Since I didn't want to alienate him and turn him off, I mentioned that Eisenhauer was one of the best Republican presidents, and that Nixon did some good things, but that I wouldn't vote for a republican until they get rid of the far-right religious element. He didn't disagree. He's one Republican who saw through the neocon element before 1992. More and more are opening their eyes.

Just wanted to post this. Now I'm going to work a while. :-)

is a good thing. (Poor Martha).

4. As Partisan As We Are At DU, Logic Dictates Reasoned Conservatives Exist
Bush is such an aberration of conservative thought and discipline, that there have to be many traditional republicans shaking their heads in disbelief.

6. I have a similar neighbor
Over the last 2 years we've been talking and he has grown frustrated with Bush and the repugs. About a year ago, I started printing out an article or two a week and giving him to them. These articles are almost always news, not op-ed pieces. I also make sure they they are not just rants against what is happening in our country because, like you, I do not want to "scare" him away.

It has worked in such a big way. I do not think he is ready to call himself a Dem, but he doesn't refer to himself as a repug anymore.

It's great to know that we are taking votes away from Bush, even if it is just one at a time.

Good job.
