Afghans "wanting to be taken to Guantanamo"/Pukeworthy History Channel
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 03:38 PM by m-jean03
I am watching The Real JAG on the History Channel and this military guy just said that during the Afghanistan war, many Afghanis would try to appear more criminal than they really were, because they wanted to be taken to Guantanamo, because they would have a better quality of life there. He also said that, many (afghani) men felt they were there to help, and not to torture them.

Is this pure propaganda, or what? Is there any truth to this?

Should I say Afghan, or Afghani?

1. It's Afghan
Afghani is the name of the currency.

And it's pure propaganda BS.

2. I didn't realize the History Channel was such a propaganda machine

for the US Army. Once they started waxing poetic about the high morale and interracial harmony during Vietnam, I realized.

And what the hell? Since when does a show of nonstop violence, bombs, gunfire, and dead bodies warrant a G rating? I'm sure a naked tit would have made it TV14, at least.

This all warrants a :puke:

4. Pheew !! . . glad I checked up first ! - didn't sound like OUR History
.
.
.

Channel,

ours is technically History "Television"

and is not exactly "Murika-friendly"

actually, it's not even Canuk" friendly,!!

History is History, and I love our shows selected and presented by Ann Medina - who makes brief comments on alot of the movies, and makes it QUITE clear whether a movie is depicting an actual historical event, and to what extent the information is accurate - -

Explains a lot of comments I quite did not understand here in DU -

It appears that should be renamed the Propoganda Channel -

I believe that the Governments in the US are pretty selective about what "really" is "History"
