Masochism -- My entrance into a right-wing forum
An acquaintance of mine encouraged me to post on this right-wing forum -- says it's about free speech, it'll be civil debate. I posted an introduction with personal and political qualities about myself... here's what I got in return:

"Ah so you believe in Wiccanism? I have a funny story about that. A Wiccan at our school was being teased by another student. She said she would curse him. She then fell down the stairs. He suffered no ill effects. Wiccanism, is to be frank, complete tosh.

To conclude: You are not a liberal. A knee-jerk "liberal" perhaps, someone who supports these causes because they seem cool, you're more about image than substance and seem to be struggling to justify this to yourself (if you were a real liberal you wouldn't bother mentioning your gender or racial background in a list of your political beliefs). "

I don't know why I expected to be treated civilly, but that's pretty impressive. The ironic thing is this guy agreed with me on abortion, death penalty -- then said I was only pretending to be pro-gay rights, and then bashed me and my religion. The right-wingers have been NOTHING but tolerant and open-minded so far.

I'll keep you updated :p

1. Good luck with that.
I've often tried the same thing you're doing right now. Hopefully you can actually engage in meaningful discussion with someone on there.

2. They're in a REALLY bad mood right now...
...for reasons we really like. Don't take it personally. I'm sure they're very magnanimous when their boy's on top.

My conservative friends have become churlish recently. It's a great new trend. Enjoy it!

4. Make sure you correct their spelling
There is no such word as "Wicanism" The religion is Wicca. The members are Wiccans. There is no "ism" to it.

Welcome to DU from a fellow Wiccan.

"Crafties" after The Craft.

I can't tell you the number of teenage girls who approached me for training after that movie came out.

I ... despise... that.... movie.

For...that....reason.

"Charmed" is only slightly better.

16. Only watch "Charmed" for Alyssa Milano...
Hate the protrayal of "Witchcraft" on the show, and the plots are a little contrived for me. (How many demons do they have to face again?), Can't they think of other creatures to battle against from myth and legend?

17. Meh.
As a 16-year old Wiccan, I have to deal with "Charmed" and "Craft" Wiccans daily. I'm a bit disgusted with it all. Milano can't save it for me :p

7. They are very tolerant
As long as you agree with their viewpoint.

The guy is quite clueless about Wicca. Good luck on the right-wing websites. I got tired of the pervasive stupidity, but I had a good time for a while holding their feet to the fire on some of their ideas.

Blessed be.

9. Victory!!
He rescinded his attack after I dissected everything he said and attacked him for it.

quote:
Alright I apologise. A lot of what I said was unjustified. You are correct, I don't know enough about you to render a judgement. Though many bad experiences with frankly slightly crazt Wiccans has soured my view towards them.

13. Agreed.
It wasn't a rabid FReeper, it was one of our own -- a liberal. That's why I was offended. If a FReeper said that, I'd have just shrugged.

Yay for me :p

15. You would think a liberal
would be open minded enough to not be soured by a few to prejudice against the many.
