High Stakes Spur Record Democratic Turnout (Texas)
High Stakes Spur Record Democratic Turnout

Texas Democratic Party officials say early voting in the party primaries set a record. They credit the showing to interest over the presidential election and other contested primary races. Party officials say major Texas counties, including Travis and Hidalgo, had record total Democratic primary turnouts. They say the record early turnout shows Texas Democrats were attuned to the competitive primaries on the presidential and local level early on and wanted to be heard.

1. Actually, it appears to just be a record for 'early voting'

That's a really misleading headline that Yahoo chose for that article.

They don't say anything about overall primary turnout except in Travis and Hidalgo Counties.

3. Those were probably the only numbers that the TDP supplied.
"Democrats ran impressive campaigns in some high-profile primaries while the state wide Republican turnout was the lowest in 18 years. Republicans proved once and for all that they have driven politics to such a far-right extreme that even many of their own voters are turning away, not turning out." This is from an e-mail of Texas Yellowdog Democrats. Even here I did not get total numbers. Still looks to be a good turnout for us.

2. Now I'm confused!
Another thread said there was a low voter turnout, now this one says it was the highest

4. I think that post was about totals and not for individual states.

5. Media
Why can't the media just wait until the facts are in instead of trying to be the first to get their story out there? Which is it media; record high or low turnout? Thanks for informing the public and doing your jobs (read this sentence with sarcasm)!!!

9. Well, I think the message is good here in Texas and that is what makes
me happy.

12. I'm tellin ya . . . .
Whether they voted in those largly uncontested races yesterday
or not, Democrats and independents here in Texas are talking
about this Presidential race, and will be out to vote in the
Fall.

Remember how in 2000 the media touted the fact that Bush was
reelected governor here by 70% or more?

Shoot, the turnout was so low in that election that I think
only 20 or 30% of people voted and of those, 70% voted for
Shrub.

That means only 15 or 20% of people actually voted for the
guy.

Believe me, the turnout will be greater than that this fall,
and Texans of all stripes now know what a menace this guy is.

6. I voted early...
I have never done that before. In fact...I've never voted in a primary before. Actually, it seemed so much easier to vote early. Voting Mon.-Fri. and 1 Sat. (IIRC). Not rushed and easily found (at least in my county.)

7. many reasons
Media advised Texans to vote early to avoid all the changes in polling places due to redistricting.

In addition, the Democratic Party is revamping and has a tremendous amount of new energy. Yea!

To see how much redistricting affected people, see the nice picture that GOPisEvil posted of my polling place in the referenced thread. (Thanks GOPisEvil)

10. Thank God I voted early
My precinct was one of the "moved" ones yesterday.

I usually vote early anyway just so I can do it on a weekend.
