Not bad for a county that has more registered Republicans than registered Democrats, huh? :P I guess the voters here realized that Bush was too stupid to vote for?

8. Texas loves them some Shrub...
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 02:47 PM by last_texas_dem
I live in Orange County, which is in the far Southeast corner of Texas and one of the most (or should I say, more...) Democratic regions of the state. Still, even Orange went for the Chimp in 2000 by a decent margin; I don't know if it was "home state" pride or what. I think this was the first time we EVER voted for a Republican candidate for President; I think we even voted for McGovern and Mondale. But it wasn't a good sign when Dole almost did as well as Clinton in '96, and now we seem to be proudly joining the dark side where the rest of Texas has been for several years. \

ON EDIT: Alright, I checked back and saw that we had voted Republican ONCE before, for Nixon over McGovern in 1972, but only five to ten counties in Texas DIDN'T vote for Nixon that time. Orange joining the dark side to support the Chimp is a major disappointment! I also found out that Orange county voted for Wallace in '68... :scared:

BTW, thanks for posting this really cool page!

Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 02:56 PM by jab105
Nader came to my county, Alachua....my city, Gainesville, FL (University of Florida) a few weeks before the election...you think that swayed some minds around here...enough to have made the difference in the Florida total...hmmmm...of course, Al Gore wasn't so smart to not come here, but go figure none the less.....

Alachua county FL

Bush 39.80% 34,135
Gore 55.25% 47,380
Nader 3.76% 3,228

16. went to Bush pretty narrowly
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 04:01 PM by ButterflyBlood
Blue Earth MN

Gore: 44.99%
Bush: 47.23%
Nader: 6.43%

So the Nader vote would've easily put Gore over the top.

My city did better:

Mankato MN

Gore: 48.62%
Bush: 42.77%
Nader: 7.55%

I'm guessing the rest of the county which is pretty much rural wingnuts voted almost exclusively for Bush and that negated the Gore lead, although he would've had a slam dunk victory if not for the Nader vote.

As for why the Nader vote is so high: this is a college town.

now as for the county I lived in at the time:

Burleigh ND

Gore: 28.54%
Bush: 65.16%
Nader: 3.31%
Buchanan: 2.99%

:puke: :puke:

And this is the second largest county in the state. Now you see why I got out!
