Perhaps Americans might learn something from the Spanish experience.
Fat chance, though. Read it and weep. With sadness as well as with joy.

Dignity and defiance

In the face of a callous and murderous terror attack, the Spanish demonstrate what it is to be civilised

David Aaronovitch

The Observer

The killers may be have nothing but contempt for us, but the great rituals of democracy can be more wonderful than one thinks possible. No one on Friday, in that whole great crowd, brandished nooses, or set upon those who sounded like Basques or looked like Arabs. Instead eight million people stood together in rain-soaked Madrid, in Salamanca, in Santiago, everywhere, in dignity and re-committed themselves to democracy, solidarity and liberty.

1. Have a little more faith in the American People
I suspect that they will vote the lying scum out of office, yet. Remmember the so called liberal media will not report on this.

By the way, tuned in to Fox news, to see how they are reacting to this... and I have yet to see them covering it... unless you read the scrolling news... it is like the elections never happened. Headlines news, OTOH, has and they sound VERY SHOCKED, as if this was not predicted.

Anybody paying attnetion to European politics and Spanish in particular could have called this result almost with eyes closed.

Now watch the Pukes transform this into voting for Kerry is appeasement (it has started without talking points on AOL boards already)... and of course them damn socialists... but that last one was the expected talking point

2. the american civilization is in its adolescence, and it act that way.
it's not surprising to see the more mature nations of europe like spain react this as they have.

anyone notice they held their election on a non-work day. they make it convenient to vote.

3. The US is among the few countries that have not moved
elections to a sunday. Back in the time of the Early Republic, when going to Church was very important, it made sense to hold them on a week day... for many reasons it made sense.

These days, they should be moved to either Saturday or Sunday... in fact Sunday would work.

5. Thank you for burping us but we aren't infants anymore.
We need to accept the fact that we are assholes and need to fix this. Are all of you elected officials in Washington reading this? It's time you did the right thing. We little jerks will do our best to get the person into office to do the best, but Hell is waitng for all of you who don't.

4. I'd say the Uglies In Charge
are sweating right about now.

The Yahoo News article said, "this is the first administration which has been ousted due to its support for the War in Iraq."

Let's hope it's not the last.
