Orson Welles/War of Worlds

To those familiar with that little episode of Orson Wells reading from War of the Worlds, and subsequently changing the population into a hysterical bunch of gun toting loonies looking for martians; is it any wonder that we can still be manipulated to look behind every rock for an arab/french (and now spanish) martian????

The reason the Welles broadcast created so much hysteria is that a single radio station was the only source of live news for many people. Anyone who tuned in after the introduction heard an authentic-sounding news broadcast, and had no way to determine if the information was fact or fiction.

The sycophantic corporate media in the U.S. has created a similar situation for much of the public today. All of the mass media is spewing identical administration propaganda, so those who rely solely on broadcast or mainstream print media have no way to discern fact from fiction.

I hope the liberal networks will expand to fill the gap and provide much-needed balance.
