Ministers arrested in NY for marrying gays
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/8192133.htm

A step towards establishing state approved religions/defining what religions will not be approved/allowed?

1. This is unconstitutional
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 03:33 PM by jeter
The "separation of church and state" allows for religions to practice without government interference.

This is a clear violation.

If the denomination with which these ministers belong to decide that they should be "defrocked" or whatever else, then fine. But the government doesn't have the right to arrest them because they disagree with their decisions.

If a mormon minister marries two women to one man, for example. The state - Utah presumably, or the whole US for that matter - may not recognize the marriage. But you can't arrest the minister.

2. They're Unitarian-Universalists...
I'm sure they won't have any problem within their denomination.

3. The point is it is up to the church and not to the government

4. Yep. If it's a religious ceremony
And what else could it be with ministers administering it?

5. Check out UUA.ORG for UUs position
UUs are possibly the most liberal mainstream religious organization.
Check em out - http://www.uua.org/

6. Yep, UU ministers have been marrying gays for years
What is going on with them getting arrested?

Are they in trouble with the govt. because they did so publicly? How in the hell can any official possibly justify this? Start of the new state approved theocracy?

What happened to the first amendment? Did someone repeal it while I was at lunch?

7. Bad Type
>"Ministers arrested in NY for marrying gays"

The way it's worded, it sound like some minister(s) married someone of the same-sex and was arrested.

>New York ministers charged for marrying gays

Of course, the Miami Herald didn't word it any more clearer.
