Why hasn't Wolf Blitzer been fired already?
His entire show plays on our fears. He assumes that the everything that goes wrong in the world is a result of Islamic extremism. He passes his assumptions as fact. Today his poll was "Is the Socialist Victory in Spain a Victory for the Terrorists?" This is pretty sad. I think it's obvious that Blitzer is a Zionist fanatic, but the way he passes it off as news makes it more despicable than Hannity's ostentatious tabloid style.

Anyone agree?

1. I don't know how much
control Wolf has over the content. I think it's the producers who might be the problem.

4. What is wrong with that question?
Seems like a reasonable thing to bring up. There are posts here today that say the bombing in Spain means we should pull out of Iraq.

5. i think you're pretty much preaching to the choir here about Wolfie
although the Zionist remark may require an asbestos mask. Proably not the whole suit though--we seem to be somewhat able to discuss zionism here civilly. (In the correct forum)

welcome to DU!

6. He is not a Zionist...
He's a Wolfist. He is a chameleon-like sneering sarcastic incompetent masquerading as a 'reporter'. He is taking care of Wolf and no one and nothing else. He states his commentary with the same intonation as he states the news reports, making them indistinguishable from each other.

He is a general pain in the ass.

12. I have a beard and moustache myself...
it gives childish faces (like mine) a 'gravitas'. But it also tends to shoo away marginal folk - like gentlemen on the street who ask for money and the like. Wolf is pretending to be just that- wolf-like with gravitas - but he's just a schmuck who owes his relatively long tenure at CNN to his intellectual malleability and uninspired delivery.

He lacks depth and he lacks appeal. Remind you of anyone?

16. So does my husband, but Wolfe does not wear his well.
His double chin spoils the look, and the color of his beard sort of melts into his face. IMO.

...does that make a Kerry win a 'victory for the terrorists' next November?

Do tell. Please.

17. It all depends on how the question is framed...
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 06:03 PM by BullGooseLoony
If the terrorists are trying to get Spain to stop supporting the US in the actual war on terror, I think the terrorists lost. If they were only looking to erode support for the war in Iraq, then they won.

19. So tell me, who is winning the "war on terrorism"?
Ok, so the US ousted Hussein and the Taliban, but Hussien was an enemy of Bin Laden (in fact Bin Laden originally offered to take out Hussein in 1991 before the US got involved), and the Taliban are making a comeback. In fact Iraq could end up becoming a fundamentalist Muslim nation run by the Shiites just like Iran.

Now on the other side of the ledger, Spain has abandoned Bush.

Seems pretty even at the moment, if not actually in Al Qaeda's favour...

Wolf's practically a neocon in his fanaticism.

Fanaticism of any kind is bad. Do you disagree?

22. Well
Wolf's practically a neocon in his fanaticism.
This isn't about Wolf Blitzer. It's about something more than that - the fact that you referred to him as a "Zionist fanatic" (untrue, as I've never heard him praising Zionism, but whatever).

It is true that fanaticism is usually harmful. But the real question is this: do you consider most Zionists to be "fanatics"? If so, why?

23. Can one be a "Zionist fanatic", "Christian extremist" or "Radical Muslim"?
Of course they can. Does calling someone one of the above indicate that the person who makes that charge believe that all Zionists, Christians or Muslims fit the description of "fanatic, extremist or radical"? Of course not. Don't be silly. :)

You say "I've never heard him praising Zionism" so in your opinion it's untrue that Wolf Blitzer is a Zionist?

I'll be willing to bet that there's lots of things Wolf has said that you haven't heard, but that doesn't mean he never said them.

He has a pro-Israeli tilt that I don't like. For the record, I don't appreciate the fanatically pro-Palestinian tilt of Al Jazeera. If you get the international version of CNN that's pretty much how the conflict should be covered.

"It is true that fanaticism is usually harmful. But the real question is this: do you consider most Zionists to be "fanatics"? If so, why?"

No, I do not.

it seems to me that Arab bashing is permitted but to refer to anyone as a Zionist, that will not be tolerated. There are some that would consider that a double standard.

32. American Israel Public Affairs Committee
and so what?

Nothing wrong with the Jerusalem Post or Haaretz that isn't also wrong with the NYT, the WaPo, the Philly Inquirer, or the Boston Globe.

At least there's some room for discussion - try that in the Palestinian press. They'll cut you to ribbons. Literally.
