3. That is a great piece of journalism...
...If American journalists have to be published in the media of our neighbors to the north in order to get out the truth, more power to them! Thanks for that great report.:yourock:

5. These two paragraphs from the article seem to sum it up...
"...U.S. forces will continue to face a simmering, low-grade guerrilla war that will kill or wound more American troops, and increasingly brutalize and corrupt occupation forces - the inevitable result of all colonial wars. In short, America now has its own West Bank, or Lebanon.

The brazen arrogance and profound ignorance shown by the Bush administration in its crusade against Iraq has turned the world against the United States. Occupied Iraq is acting as a terrorism generator. For the next generation of young Muslims, Iraq is becoming what Afghanistan was in the 1980s, a rallying point to fight foreign occupation, battle imperialism and defend the tattered honour of the Muslim world. Bush and his men have created millions of new enemies. "

2. I don't get the military triumph bit.
Big freaking deal. So we pushed over a third world country and dug up it's leader out of a rat hole. WOW!! That's some military victory.

I think that the capture of Saddam and the state that he was in coupled with the no WMD, shows that Iraq was no threat to anyone.

4. Margolis has been right in all his columns!
He has had this bush cabal in his sights even before the invasion of Iraq and he hasn't let up, thank goodness! He was a commentator on Canadian television on the run up to the invasion and was great.

He refers to a military success solely in the area of logistics which is why he refers to it as a "pyrrhic victory".

LIARS OR FOOLS?

... This column has maintained for the past ten years that a campaign of lies and disinformation was being waged against Iraq. Though I detested Saddam, whose brutal secret police threatened to hang me, I was incensed to see western democracies fabricating war propaganda worthy of Nazi propagandist, Dr Goebbles.

I watched with disgust as so-called `Iraq experts’ and neo-conservative propagandists, few of whom had ever been to Iraq, warned night after night on US TV about the `deadly threat’ from Iraq. Genuine Mideast specialists were systematically excluded from US media commentary. As one reader just noted, the US media was not `embedded,’ it was in bed with the government.

By challenging war propaganda, I became the object of viscous attacks by fellow journalists and media pundits in the US and Canada. Each week, I was flooded by hate email.

I even left twice weekly shows at TV Ontario – after nine years – after the station producers tried to censor my views on Iraq and kept prompting a pro-war, neo-con party line on TVO’s programs.

TVOntario is the public educational channel funded by the provincial government. Margolis was a mainstay on its program "Diplomatic Immunity" --

LOS ANGELES - The Bush Administration's response to 9/11 has been to threaten attacks against enemies of Israel. Last week, on my weekly TVO show, `Diplomatic Immunity,' super-hawk Richard Perle, one of the Bush Administration's most influential and certainly smartest member, confirmed the US plans to attack Iraq `this year' and may also assail Syria.
I've tried to find a bit more about the pressure that led to his departure, but can't seem to, just at the moment.

The right-wing Tory govt of Ontario seems to have had its way with TVO; wonder whether the new Liberals will do any better ...

Oh, btw, CBC Newsworld reported this morning (from an Ipsos poll) that 71% of Canadians believe that the decision to stay out of the attack on Iraq was correct.
