3. does local media even care?
if we look close enough, we'd probably find that the media people are contributing to chimpy's campaign as well.

21. major media individual donations
Virtually every jounalist is savvy to FES public posting of data, so it appears they do not contribute.

However, media moguls do indeed contribute. Here's a few:

Rupert Murdoch
Sumner Redstone
Mel Karmazin
Robert Wright
Michael Eisner
Ted Turner

and for fun...
Hugh Hefner

anybody have more suggestions?

But it won't, since the republican owned corporte media also contributed to the Bush campaign.

8. would you rather people be able to bribe your leaders in secret?
Of course I would prefer people not be able to bribe (contribute) our candidates at all, but if this is the way it is, we should at least be able to know who's doing it.

18. I wouldn't care if my name is listed because it's listed in 1000's of DBs
like opensecrets.org, and the fec, and every telemarketing firm on the planet. Face it, privacy doesn't exist in this world.

And it just because it's legal doesn't mean it's not bribery, it's just legal bribery. Politicians do things for groups that give them money, it's common knowledge. The fact that it's legal doesn't make it any more abhorent. In fact I think it proves the point quite well that this government belongs to those with the $$$s and no one else.

7. what other states do these voting machine companies reside in?
we should scour the website in the link from my original post and we might find other voting machine company executives giving cash to the chimp.

is it even legal for the people that make the machines that count our votes to give money to a political party? seems to be some sort of collusion here.

17. Diebold has a large office in...
... Texas, where some of the programming and testing is done, but the production facilities are in one of the Carolinas (NC, I think).

That was part of the hook that Diebold tried to use on the Ohio Sec. of State's office to get them to award the contract to Diebold--promising that production of Ohio's machines would be moved to Ohio--dangling a few temporary jobs in front of the Sec. of State.

Cheers.

16. OMIGOD!
The election is lost. I didn't believe it until today. There's no way that these people can remain objective when they have a strong commitment to the outcome of the election. If they won't permit paper ballots, then, dammit, let us examine the program code.

"then, dammit, let us examine the program code"

Don't even LET a corporation EVER write election program code. Congress should be chiefly responsible for it. NEVER a private corporation.

24. Completely agree with your point.
The government should be responsible for running the elections. I don't even like the fact that our polling areas are in country clubs and churches. That feels very one-sided too.

32. Bundling & forced contributions.
What makes this interesting is that this could be a case of corporate bundling...where a corporation or their management team decides to fund Bush..but are limited by law on individual contributions...so they bundle the cotnributions in $2K chunks.

Or it could be that old practice of "forced shakedown"...an old pratice where if you are a corporate executive you are 'expected' to contribute to the GOP. no matter what your personal political beliefs. I would be suprised this would be still going on as its sort of "1950s" thing. But then, Diebold is in Canton, where Beatlemania is just about to hit. ;-)

I know for a fact that defense contractors are being shaken down. I worked in one company where the owner was starting a pac and at a managerial meeting told us that we had to shake down the employees for contributions.
