I too see the exact same things as you...people who are extremely intelligent, but refuse to acknowledge the obvious lies and deceit of BushCo.
Remember the OJ trial? I feel there are many similarities to what's going on now and how divided we were then. I was perplexed then at the way many seemingly intelligent people disregarded the facts in favor of other issues. I considered myself to be on the side of reason then as I do now. But I also felt sorry because the country was so divided about the case. When that kind of division happens, people lose contact with each other and become polarized. Just as I walked the streets the day of the OJ verdict wondering which side the people I passed were on, I do the same now, only I wonder if they are pro-Bush or not.
It felt like the same wounds were reopened one year ago when the war started. I was dismayed for at least six months leading up to the war as I heard lie after obvious lie from local "liberal" talk show hosts. One is a former lawyer, and is the most snide sleazebag imagineable. Example:
3/11/04: Welcome to my blog! I am delighted to have the opportunity to share thoughts, beefs, ideas and other products of my fertile mind--or is that a field of fertilizer?--I know that's what some have suggested, but I am undeterred.
Today's breaking news is that the husband of ultra-lib Chicago congresswoman Jan Schakowsky has been indicted on bank fraud and tax charges. The best part of the story is the following paragraph: "The indictment also says Creamer caused a series of insufficiently funded checks and wire transfers to be drawn on accounts he controlled as executive director of the Illinois Public Action Fund. That's a not-for-profit public interest organization." How perfect is that? I don't want to be misunderstood.
I don't know if Mr. Creamer has done anything wrong. So far he is only accused. I also don't know if he has another source of income, but I suspect that this 'public interest' thing is his full-time gig. Can there ever be a liberal who doesn't work for the government, a college or university or one of these do-gooder groups? In other words, who has a real job? OK, teaching in a university is a real job, but it's not exactly the high stress I-may-be-gone-tomorrow-if-I-don't-produce routine most people face. So, repeating, can there ever be a liberal with a real job?
Another, I actually admired, until he began shouting at and hanging up on callers who questioned the war. These people brag about their vacations, their home remodeling projects--they are paid handsomely by advertisers and each gets to do local commercials. They worship the dollar. But, only BushCo stands to profit directly from the lies and corruption. You really have to wonder what makes the others set their brains aside to jump on the bandwagon of greed and power grabs.
And then there are the bottom feeders. Those who listen, who have little or no money, or even jobs--and yet they dismiss the truth. I heard a Hannity caller tonight say there is no real unemployment because in Grand Rapids he knows two or three people who are collecting unemployment and working several jobs as well. :eyes:
These people are truly evil. I have tried to equate their usage of the media to dominate the political landscape to the domination of the media by liberals years ago. I cannot reconcile the two. The big difference is that the liberal media was responsible enough to tell the truth--most of the time at least. This has to backfire at some point, whether it's through civil war or some other means. The question I think that is more important than what we do with their rate is what do we do with our outrage? We are a new market waiting to happen. We have the resources to recreate the media--and I believe we well. Necessity of the mother of invention. And Lord knows we need a media that represents our interests.
