Here's A Hairball Convention Question - and The Polls, and Kerry
Let's say that between now and the Convention events conspire to drop Kerry's polling against Bush to some absurd low, lets say 80% Bush and 20% Kerry and with Bush's disapproval down in the teens with Kerry's disapproval way way up there somewhere.

Would it be right for Kerry to announce to the Convention that he declines the nomination and then open it up to whatever candidate was selected?

That presents a second question that I've always wondered about. Let us say that a ticket is selected and we'll make it Kerry and Joe Blow. Then around the end of September let's say there is a plane crash and Kerry is killed. Would the Democratic Party just move the Vice Presidential Candidate up to the Number 1 slot? If so how would the VP nomineed be chosen? Might the Convention be called back?

2. Numbers Don't Matter
I don't give a crap what the numbers are, just say that it was obvious for whatever reason the Senator Kerry that he could not win. Would you expect him to then disenguage himself from the race?
