60 Minutes Bombshell !
Although the Bush regime is trying to cover up this story that is scheduled to be on 60 Minutes tomorrow night by flooding the airwaves with stories about Orlando and start of the campaign and the one-year anniversary of the beginning of the war, the story is so damning that it cannot be ignored. Former adviser, Richard Clarke, states unequivocally that the Bush White House ignored intelligence on the danger of attacks by al Qaeda. This cannot be covered up or spun as something it is not. It is a cold bucket of water in the face of many Americans that have accepted Bush's explanations for the war at face value. For many others that continue to be in denial for whatever partisan reasons, it is a hard slap across the face. Only the dead or unconscious will be able to ignore this bombshell.

1. They've been advertisng the interview quite a bit on CBS
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 12:47 PM by lancdem
I suspect a lot of people have seen the promos, since they're watching March Madness. The announcer says, "Who ssys President Bush dropped the ball on terrorism? Only one of his former aides," or something to that effect. It is damning.

This could start rhe week off great for us, and for Kerry.

11. I'll take you up on that bet! You ready to put up?
I've got website space to put on the table. I'll give ya a Meg of free webspace to use as you see fit. What've you got.

Terms of the bet: the 60 Minutes story runs tomorrow night in full and Clarke's story gets pundit play on line and in print on Monday. You game?

That's about what you're suggesting, right?

Plus Clarke testifies on Monday, book coming out too. Rove & co. have known this was coming for some time. If they have a 'look at the hand while I pull a fluffy bunny from my posterior' available, it'll play Sun, Mon, Tues.

I'd go even money.

3. This explains the new repuke smear of Kerry...
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 01:12 PM by Kahuna
I was listening to Monica Crowley on WABC radio, NYC today. She was hyperventilating about Kerry belonging to a group that conspired to kill 7 senators. Then she had Bo Deidel (sp?) on. They were trying to figure out if the statute of limitations was up for conspiracy to murder. :eyes: Then they said that even though Kerry claimed he had quit the group the FBI confirmed that he was still an active member at the time of the conspiracy. Well duh, wingnuts. If the FBI was watching Kerry and they thought he was guilty of conspiracy don't you think they would have charged him 30 years ago? :wow:

7. Agree and so does Carl Bernstein
x-Watergate writer laments 'idiot culture'
Former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein told about 200 people in Tampa that today's media is more gossip and trash than news.
By BRADY DENNIS, Times Staff Writer
Published March 19, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.sptimes.com/2004/03/19/Tampabay/Ex_Watergate_writer_l.shtml

But mostly he talked about an epidemic that troubles him deeply these days. He calls it "the triumph of idiot culture."

Speaking to a crowd of about 200 at the Wyndham Westshore, he placed most of the blame on modern media outlets.

Bernstein, the former Washington Post journalist who, along with fellow reporter Bob Woodward, unearthed the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon, said much of today's news has deteriorated into gossip, sensationalism and manufactured controversy.

That type of news panders to the public and insults their intelligence, ignoring the context of real life, he said. Good journalism, Bernstein said, "should challenge people, not just mindlessly amuse them."

He said the modern press lacks true leadership, citing such examples as AOL Time Warner and mogul Rupert Murdoch as media owners that have increasingly abandoned the principles of meaningful reporting.

37. Well, if they insist on claiming that, then it means the terrorists won.
I wonder if they're anxious to promote such a notion. If they say "9/11 changed everything" - the response is/should be: if that's indeed the case, then you're declaring that the terrorists have won. Especially since you say the terrorists were bent on destroying everything that is America. Well, you're enabling it. No longer a free press. No more privacy. No more civil liberties. No more strong allies abroad. We are essentially isolated. Fear and suspicion reign throughout the land. And it's been state-sanctioned by the Patriot Act. We are no longer what we were in America. And we are as divided as hell. The response of the bushies has rendered it thus.

26. OT or slow game would just push it back - CBS will air it
CBS is used to airing 60 Minutes starting late cause they often have sports preceding it. NFL football, NCAA basketball and PGA Golf. I've seen it start near as late as 8PM. They always announce during game that 60 Minutes will follow right after the game.

But if you're setting a VCR - make sure you set 7-9 on East Coast (6-8 Central). Do Tivos work the same way?
