I know I'm being paranoid here. Beijing was certainly playing hardball with Taiwan, pointing their 500 missiles at the "splittist" island and threatening to invade if, after 55 years, the Taiwanese decide to start living in the real world.
But do yall think Chen could actually have had himself gutshot and his VP kneecapped just to pull off a tight election? The polls were neck and neck and the timing for Chen couldn't have been more fortuitous--enough time to get a full news cycle of sympathetic David-vs-Goliath coverage, but not enough time to let the KMT/Nationalist party start whispering about
ku rou ji (a Mandarin term not quite meaning "tinfoil").
My gut says "guilty guilty guilty", but then again I always thought Taco Bell would understand the encharito was a keeper. My judgment ain't perfect here. What're your thoughts?
