When he was talking about the aftermath of 9/11.....He said "I'll never forget standing in the shadows of the twin towers, and God pointed at me & said don't let me down.".....I'm sure that's what he said....Did anyone else notice?....This is really scary now....He's openly saying he's working for God!

39. Not to be a smart ass. But did you really need more proof?
I`ve believed for along time that Bu$h the lesser and his father are both insane to a very high degree of insanity. If that makes any sense. They both try to justify Dim Son`s war crime. And they can say the name of God in the same breath. Now that is insane.

65. insanity isnt really that bad....
i am proven to be clinically insane to a small degree and i make more sense than the average person. The fact of it is insane people tend to think "better" than the average human. yes, at certain points they stop making sense but overall slight insanity is better then normality.

It would be funny if they were considered REALLY clincally insane, to the point of non-sensical thinking, though :D

63. Thou Shalt not Take God's name in Vain
One of the commandments I believe Bushie boy must have missed.
I believe if God talked to Bush..He would have reminded him
Thou Shalt not Kill..Bear false witness, and Thou Shalt not covet
Nope...Wasn't God...Not too many people I know can break that many commandments in one speech !

3. Paranoid schizophrenics often hear voices of God or even Lucifer
I know a person that is moderately schizophrenic that swore (at the time) he had a fist fight with the devil. I've no doubt Bush had a similar experience, but he thought God was talking to him.

Could also be Bush had been drinking heavily again just before 9/11 and was having DT's.

40. Me too.
It sounds so Dumbyano.

The closest I have come so far to finding that quote in print is this:

None of us will ever forget that week when one era ended and another began. On September 14, 2001, I stood in the ruins of the Twin Towers. I remember a lot that day. Workers in hardhats were shouting, "Whatever it takes." One man pointed at me and said, "Don't let me down." As we all did that day, these men and women searching through the rubble took it personally. I took it personally. I've a responsibility that goes on. I will never relent in bringing justice to our enemies. I will defend America, whatever it takes. (Applause.)
http://www.georgewbush.com/News/Read.aspx?ID=2261

I'll never forget that day," said Bush. "There were workers in hard hats shouting at the top of their lungs, 'Whatever it takes.' I remember a fellow pointed at me and said 'Mr. President, never let me down."'
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/bush/articles/2004/03/12/bush_remembers_911_raises_money/

"There's a huge trust. I see it all the time when people come up to me and say,
'I don't want you to let me down again.'"

20. I can't find the quote
anywhere, so I doubt if its true. If he had said it, it would be somewhere on the internet, a blog, something.

(from Google)
Your search - "God pointed at me" Bush - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:
- Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
- Try different keywords.
- Try more general keywords.
- Try fewer keywords.

Too bad he couldn't have dialled up Dubya's number on the heavenly hot line prior to 9/11 and filled Dubya in beforehand on the plans of the evildoers to take out the WTC - seeing as how Shrubenfuhrer and Condisleeza were ignoring all the more earthly type warnings they were getting from intelligence agencies worldwide and from the previous administration.

One guy pointed at me and said, "Don't let me down."....That is not how that sounded to me, or others who have posted here, but I could be wrong.

This is close to the bottom of the transcript, which would be about right...He was close to the end of his remarks when he said it.

I think someone posted that Freeperville picked up on the God remark too...so it seems its not just the DU crowd who heard that.

If they cleaned up the transcript to read "guy" instead of "God", this is a big deal...why did they do the clean-up...the excuse will be that everyone "misheard" the remark.

Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 05:59 PM by spooked
It was in a Time magazine article written by Michael Duffy.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=bush+%22chosen+by+god%22+duffy&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=Xns942B67295D741DoDahDoDah%40216.168.3.44&rnum=2

Then Duffy added:
"Privately, Bush even talked of being chosen by the grace of God to lead at that moment."

I will look to find the original article.

White House Insiders: Bush is out of control
http://www.mikehersh.com/article_86.shtml

"George W. Bush sincerely believes God sent him to remove Saddam Hussein from power. Bush's monomania about Saddam and his sense of divine purpose scare some of his closest advisors."

****
I don't have a subscription to access the Time article, but the above are 2 great links to stories of similar claims.

62. There's at least one error in the White House transcript
...about halfway down:

"We stand for a cultural life in which every person counts and every person matters."

Now we know "cultural life" in this sentence is meaningless; I'm certain he said "culture of life", but slurred it and it was transcribed wrong.

This says to me that there could be other "errors" (or worse) as well. Check CSPAN when it comes up, folks!

66. fun fact about chimpy
As gov. of Texas he declared there would be an annual jesus day so we can tell why he thought up this non-sensical God speak.

If God does exist, why would he have picked bush? maybe he was on vacation. Dealing with that many people (i mean, a lot are freepers :P) must suck!

69. Reminds me of a Gary Larson cartoon
The cartoon has God with earth (about the size of a globe) and he's sprinkling it from what looks like a salt shaker, but labeled "JERKS" -- "Just to make things interesting," he says.

73. Hmmm. God talking...Burning bush....
"God pointed at me and said..." This guy is barking mad. Mad King George.

Bush did it again this week, when he described the "war on terra" as a "calling," a word with specifically religious connotations.

"War on terra"...war on Mother Earth...

Deliver us from evil, deliver us from evil bushes, deliver us from crazy bushes, deliver our country from these people who claim to be acting in God's name....

Hekate
