Big sigh, could get depressed about this...
2 local radio talk show hosts are on the radio right now, discussing Richard Clarke. One of them asked the other if he talked about this during his show (their shows are on at different times on the same station), and his reply was no. He let out a big sigh, and said (slightly paraphrased) "I didn't talk about it because frankly, it hurts too much to think that the president could be so deceitful about all of this stuff coming out".

Unfortunately, I think this is a big problem- The right wing has been so successful in painting themselves as being beyond reproach that many people just can't conceive this administration doing anything wrong or deceitful. The level of denial is absolutely astounding...

Just my .02 worth- hopefully, it is worth even less than that.

12. Good attitude you have
I just toned down my comments on a another forum becasue I could sense the rising panic and desperation on the part of a Bush supporter.

Sometimes people need the space to reach a level of acceptance.

Watching some of the Bush supporters helps me understand the Jonestown phenomenon.

3. I wish it did not have to happen this way.
A big reason people stopped trusting the government (and the right wing propganda) was Nixon...We have Nixon 2. Sigh.

4. eek!
Here they play "Mancow in the Morning" (based in Chicago) in the mornings (duh :-)) and I didn't hear him mention it either. He MIGHT have and I just wasn't listening at the time. I can't stand him but he recently decided not to support Dubya anymore and is vocal about it. That's the only reason I can stand to listen at all recently.

21. We have a new FM Talk show here in Atlanta
and there are these two back to back guys, Farrell followed by Schnitt.

Didn't hear a peep about it from either one.

But Hannity was sure flailing thru the air.

7. Why would this depress you?
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 08:02 PM by jeter
The right-wing are beginning to realize the bullshit coming out of the Bush Administration.

Remember Mel Gibson saying that he is having "second thoughts about Bush." Well that was because of the alleged WMDs.

The GOP are scared shitless about this issue.

This one is bigger than the others. But more will follow. All of it will, collectively, paint a picture of the Bush Administration as a bunch of lying assholes.

If they can't make an argument about Iraq and terrorism, what do they have?

A Democratic President - a la John Kerry - come January 20, 2005.

Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 08:14 PM by Rowdyboy
3 hour show and all they talked about boring state-level politics (licensing eye-doctors and voter ID) and strange animal stories.

Anything to avoid facing the ugly reality .

16. Well, okay then. Sounds like these guys have to be pressed with more
TRUTH!

So what should we do, shut up and go turn on a rerun of something and kick back, and HOPE that guys like these on the radio come to their senses?

NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!! Now is the time to drive the point home!!! If this guy is trying desperately to avoid it and to avoid facing up to it, it proves there's a wee bit inside him that's starting to scream! He's starting to get the "what's wrong with this picture" nagging angel on his shoulder. Sounds like he's on the edge, ready to be pushed over with the flick of a phone call - maybe one that includes FACTS. Like on MSNBC just a few minutes ago (as of this posting), David Gregory had a report WITH ONE OF THE FOLKS WHO WAS IN THE ROOM WITH RICHARD CLARKE WHEN BUSH STRONG-ARMED HIM, SAW IT WITH HIS OWN EYES, AND VOUCHED FOR IT.

Then, there's Sandy Berger, who is documented as having warned Condi Rice about all this during the transition time, and he says she ignored it all. Another post here says ABC News just said it has THREE corroborating witnesses, not two, as Leslie Stahl said she had.

Then, there's that other Clark guy - WESLEY CLARK, who has been quoted repeatedly about being dispatched by the White House to be a talking head on CNN ON THE DAY OF 9/11, and ordered to link the attack to Saddam. He has been widely quoted as saying he agreed to do so, but just wanted some information from the White House to back it up. He also is widely quoted as saying the White House never called him back with any of this.

Things like this start piling up, and smacking people like the guy on the radio you describe, in the face, and soon enough, BOOM! We have reached critical mass. And before you know it, you have more converts away from the Dark Side.

Good heavens, I hope you have a way to write to these guys at their station. Or email them. Or call the station switchboard! REGISTER YOUR VIEWS! A letter or email or even a fax, to them, or even to just this one guy, with facts and links so he can check it out for himself, would work magic! BELIEVE ME, PLEASE!!! IT'S SO IMPORTANT!!! As someone who spent 25 years on the air, most of it in/on radio, I can tell you, personally, the huge value and impact that even a single letter has with station management. BIGTIME. A SINGLE POSITIVE MENTION of me, by name, in an ARB Talkback report one season actually saved my job and improved my station management's attitude toward me dramatically - for about a year. Kept me from being fired for at least that long, including a period of time when a hostile program director took over. He didn't touch me for the longest time, while housecleaning a lot of other people around me.

PLEASE, FOLKS, DO THIS!!! Kckc - PLEASE CALL THIS STATION! The radio host you enlighten today may help you get rid of a liar and a crook tomorrow!

19. Ok, let me clarify
The depressing part is the denial factor- it can be very strong, obviously. I did take the time to refute many of the arguments made by the host on farther to the right (in a deeper state of denial). The guy who made the statement is very moderate, and quite liberal on social issues, and has stated quite clearly his choice to not vote for * next time. He doesn't harp on it too much however, lest the Talk Show Commissioners (as he calls them) get too upset and fire him. (he is on the same station as Rush, Savage and O'Reilly- not such a stretch if one steps out of line). Anyway, I'll keep fighting if you guys will :)

20. Excellent! You are to be commended!
It's just SO important!

I'm really sorry to nag. It must be pretty obnoxious. Sometimes I feel like that's all I do here at DU. That you cared enough to get involved, and "take the time to refute many of the arguments made by the host on farther to the right" is a BIG plus. A BIG accomplishment.

When I was on the air, as I indicated, one letter always got attention. It was always assumed to be representative of - maybe from a dozen or two, to thousands of other people who feel the same way but just were too apathetic, busy, forgetful, disheartened, driving, or otherwise engaged to write in, themselves. Always. I remember, when I worked at the Associated Press, ONE complaint from a member (affiliate) would keep the brass's knickers in a knot for several months! Once, one of the Assistant Managing Editors got a nice letter about me. ONE letter. I heard about it for a couple of years afterwards. This stuff matters!

THANKS for doing your part! Don't stop now! And the rest of you, don't YOU stop, either!!!
