16. At the very least it was the day Democracy was sorely wounded
The jury is still out on whether the wound was mortal.

6. Yep. The corruption goes straight to the bone. WE are a rogue nation.
We have WMDs, and have used them in the past.

We invade other nations on the slimmest of pretexts.

We have "troubled" elections.

We have a concentration camp.

28. Yep. We woke up one day, and our republic has turned rogue.
WTF? How did THAT happen?

MPM,
Knows the answer, but doesn't want to face it.

4. The hope of this country now firmly in the hands
of the widow that is sueing the administration for the death of her husband. Those that are wounded most will be the hope of getting back our Democracy.

5. Whatever made me think that the members of the panel would not play
politics with 9/11. This panel is a joke. If I hear one more person say, "But there hasn't been an attack on the US for over two years" I will scream. It's as if attacks on the US were common before 9/11. Am I crazy? I don't understand the logic in that statement.

8. Are you somehow amazed? Suprised? This is just as rich as Ashcroft &
Arnie offering to "investigate themselves".

17. Unfortunately, I remember them all too well
And yes, initial report indicate that this might be very similar.

Do the Democrats ever learn?

12. I don't know what you expected from these hearings, but
I don't think it's going as badly as you say.

Powell and Armitage have both contradicted Cheney's and Rice's public statements.

There are a couple of other folks coming before the committee, including Richard Clarke. His testimony should be quite interesting.

Sorry to be so blind and ignorant, but what exactly do you think will be swept under the rug?

15. The whole thing. Again, think back on the
Warren Commission and the Iran/Contra hearings.

Nothing will be done.

That was pretty dull until John Dean testified.

20. Yep. But you also have to remember that the GOP wanted Nixon gone, too.
This is not exactly analogous.

21. Okay, I have to ask again
Just what do you think the purpose of this hearing/this commission is?

And please support the assertion that GOP wanted Nixon gone. That is not how I recall it.

24. The purpose? Easy:
Smoke and mirrors. Same as Iran/contra.

As for Nixon, I seem to remember the GOP in congress demanding his resignation, and threatening to impeach in lieu of it. They felt that he had endangered the party, with nothing to gain from it.

This time, there's plenty to gain.

25. GOP certainly wasn't demanding Nixon out before Dean
testified. Check the record.

Iran/Contra hearings were a bad joke, I agree, because of the impotence of certain senators, but this commission isn't doing too badly. Honestly, I think they just want to shine a little light on what the hell went wrong, and I think Richard Ben-Veniste, among others, is being pretty damned good in his questioning.

You seem to think this is some sort of impeachment hearing. Couldn't disagree more. And I don't think this committee is going to help GW Bush very much.

nothing of value was going to come from it? Listening so far, I fear he may be right --
