Bush: "had my administration had any information..."
Bush just said: "had my administration had any information that terrorists were going to attack New York City on Sept. 11th, we would have acted...”

ah... as this article, from May of 2002 points out, he clearly had that "any information..."

1. What if the Chairman of the Counterterrorism Security Group
Had begged and pleaded with you and your administration since your inauguration to take the Al Qaeda threat seriously, but you were too preoccupied with kicking Saddam's ass?

4. by saying 'any information'
is he implying a handwritten letter from Osama Bin Laden saying what they intended to do..........or 'any' in the sense of some sort of warning with even a shred of credibility...because there were plenty of them..........several foreign Intelligence services sent warnings, FBI Agent Williams sent the memo about the pilot school, ...

5. Dumbest Response Ever
So in order to do anything about a terror attack they need VERY SPECIFIC INFORMATION???? Date, time, place??? What do they expect an engraved invitation with all the details?????

7. He also said he met with CIA's Tenet on a "regular" basis...
What is "regular"? Once a month - every time he came back from vacation??

8. Would somebody put that link in drudge's little suggestion box
and tell him it contradicts his headline story?

He's posted shit that I've sent him before, but I think he's filtering out my IP address now.

Gracias.

9. he sure covered his ass good with needing such specifics
that's how i read his words. he needed to know specifically where the target was in order to get moving. we're back to what "is" is.

10. Unfortunately, I think he means that quite literally.
I think what Chimpy is saying here, when he says "had my administration had any information that terrorists were going to attack New York City on Sept. 11th, we would have acted...” he might possibly mean that had someone told him,

"Dude! On September 11, 2001, terrorists are going to hijack four American planes, and then - stay with me, dude - fly two of them into the World Trade Center and one of them into the Pentagon. You might want to try to shoot that fourth one down, if you can't get to the other three"

then he would have acted. He would have, like, canceled flights that day, or something.

He's either an idiot who has paid no attention to the 9/11 hearings today (and won't learn of it tomorrow, either, as he doesn't read the newspaper), or he's using legalese in a clever way.

I'd put my money on the former, of course.

11. Of course he means it literally
That's their deniability. Words are carefully chosen to express an idea, but with wiggle-room built in.

Did they know New York would be the target? Did they know it would happen on September 11?

Personally, I think the answers to both questions may well be "Yes." But for now anyway, Bush feels safe in including those out-clauses.

12. This is word for word the same sleazy defense Condi used
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 11:15 AM by ftbc
a few months ago. It just begs a follow-up question, "But what if you had information about an impending attack on a major target in the U.S. in the Fall of 2001 using hijacked airplanes?" This eliminates the deniability they so carefully crafted in the original statement.

But of course the lapdog media is either too compromised or too dense to follow up.

(edited for clarity)

13. This is the first thing I thought of when I heard that quote...
You'd think some astute reporter would've fired this back at him.
