Freepers scared of Gephardt's unions, outsourcing issue, and defense
An interesting thread on freerepublic.com - Republicans are afraid of Gephardt. Imagine a Gephardt/Clark ticket - Bush wouldn't stand a chance.

http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/955976/posts

Gephardt is piling up the union endorsements. He has the Black Caucus and the Black mayors so he will sweep the South on Super Tuesday with Black votes.

Let Dean have the Hollywood, San Francisco, latte liberal types.

Lately, I have noticed fewer "Dean or Green" posts on DU. I think they are beginning to sober down. Hmmm, let me see how this is going down on DU.

Smart move by the Teamsters.

...

If Dean becomes the RAT nominee, look for the Teamsters to endorse GWB.

...

He and Lieberman are also, in my book, the two Dems who can appear relatively strong on national defense.

...

I agree with you and do think Gephardt is well in the mix at this stage. In addition to Union Support which can put troops on the ground on primary election day he has the endorsement of many of his colleagues

I think he's not to be counted out as of yet.... If he makes a good showing in the first few primaries then the money will begin to come his way.... He's not missing over 300 House votes sitting at home. He's been in the field all this year plowing and planting.

...

Republicans are terrified that Gephardt will start talking about white collar job outsourcing. I think he's just warming up.

1. Hilarious.
Gephardt is presidential dead meat. He has the charisma of Lieberman, and the baggage of an old-style, owned-by-labor political boss, as well as the 'tax and spend' liberal label. He also has been in the House for as long as many voters have been alive, which means there's lots and lots there for the attack dogs to go after. Too many negatives for a guy who's an effective politician at what he does, but that's not what people are looking for in a president.

4. Here, here! Very nice point.
Gephardt is my third candidate behind Kerry and Edwards. I like him alot . . . and you're right, he is a real democrat.

3. It would be interesting if Clark ran
I wonder what Clark's policies are? Gephardt has plenty of support at this point, and with Dean and Kerry and frontrunners, and with Kucinich keeping everyone from straying too far from the base, Gephardt might be the best chance we have.
