Polls on support for the war taken before the war.
As I remember correctly, somewhere in the rage of 35% of Americans supported going to war in Iraq WITHOUT the UN. When asked if they supported the war if we went in with the UN, the numbers were 50-60%. Then it became clear we were going to war and the UN was not with us and the polls changed.

Anyone know where I could find those polls? Shouldn't we keep reminding people of those polls. Like the press that keeps saying Americans are pro war?

Another issue we need to think about: once we are IN a war it is very difficult to get people psyched about opposing it. I think the reason is the guilt we feel for sending our boys there to die. We'd rather think it was a good cause and they didn't die in vain. (I remember that being a huge emotional response from my anti-Vietnam protest days.

How do we counter that feeling?

1. It was a lot higher than 50-60
with the UN, it was definetly close to 3 quarters, and since victory was declared, it hasn't been much lower than that(for agreement with decision to go in)

although, according to some new polls showed to me tonight, it was in the mid 60's. Some of the polls were skewed questions (like do you think it was worth all of the soldiers dying" types) but it looks as if it's still a good 20-30 point split in favor of the decision regardless of UN

2. Keep the purpose in focus
Railing against the military is pointless and counterproductive. Why are we there? Why are we killing people when they have not attacked us first? Who are these people (are they not people looking out for their livelihood and families, like you and me)?
