Air America won't be streaming broadcasts???
If this is true, it's a BIG mistake on their part. They should be streaming from day one in order to build a strong listener base. :grr:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A27321-2004Mar26.html

What you won't hear, if you live in the Washington area, is what the Air America Network really sounds like: whether Al Franken can sustain three hours a day of radio, whether Janeane Garofalo can talk as well as she can act, whether liberal callers can be as righteous and bloodthirsty as their counterparts on conservative radio.

Air America will debut Wednesday in four cities -- New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco -- but not here.

Why? Because there's nowhere to put that programming on our local radio dial. (And Air America isn't yet streaming its broadcasts on the Web.)

1. If enough people want to make this happen we can make it happen
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/broadcaster/
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qtss/
(those are both free)

Someone who gets a nice radio signal can run a line from their stereo to their mic jack, encode it, then send that as a stream to as many mirrors as their bandwidth can support. Those reflector servers can stream to cllients and other reflector servers, and so on and so on, until everyone on the web without a good radio signal who wants to listen can.

Just a thought...

2. I agree...
and I do not know if it was some constraint on their part that could not be helped. That being said, it is now up to those in the 4 markets to make it work. We finally have a voice to fight back with, make the reich-wing wish they were back home with mommy. We MUST make it work!

5. They CAN'T fail.
You gotta start somewhere, but with only 4 markets, no Internet radio, and no satellite radio (far as I know), I'm already concerned.

thanks Paragon. Hey we did not know, and it is something to be concerned about. There is a powerful group of freaks that would like to see this fail.

18. hmmmm
"Air America Radio is in negotiations with satellite television and satellite radio providers."

Well, it'll be interesting if DirecTv under Murdoch will be carrying the feed on their music channels. I'm guessing...no.

4. Live streaming will be available
according to their own site:

I tried the URL, looks like an unsubscribe confirmation, but we should probably look for updated information to appear soon.

14. I hope Air America plans on upgrading their web site
Before they start broadcasting on Wednesday I sure hope they have a professional web design team working to roll out an exciting user friendly site with all kinds of cool and fun information. It should have been up and running by now. I don't see them doing much to market themselves yet. Here in NYC I've seen no ads, nothing in the subways. Maybe in the next couple of days we'll hear more.

17. Agreed...
their website is atrocious. I have gone there a few times just to find out what station they'll be broadcasting on in San Francisco. I can't find thart information.

Terrible, terrible website.

Kos seems to have information that they'll be streaming, at least from the beginning.
