Dems need to be more than the opposition party...

Joe Scarborough was right(gasp) when he said on his show that the current field of Democrats seem to be measuring their success by America's failure. By this he means they can only win if the economy fails or Iraq ends in a disaster. If we want to survive we can't appear as if our slogan in 2004 isn't "We can't be any worse than Bush."

As a party we need to show how we can create a strong economic and foreign policy that involves international cooperation. We also need to show how we'll build democracy at home and spread access to the economy, democracy, and information to every American regardless of income.

We need more than a simple reversal of Bush administration policies, we need a complete reorganization of our economic and political system. For instance we need to increase employment, improve job quality where it needs improvement, and get rid of the incentive to limit productivity and gain a bigger profit. As another political analyst said, "We need to have better incentives for productivity and employment than starvation and poverty."

Another economic reform needed is to transform our economy from a resource and land exploitation based economy to a production of goods based economy. Too much of our economy is based around big oil companies and big agribusinesses. It should be based more on technology, labor, and durable goods. Building an economy on pulling things out of the ground and selling it doesn't provide the most stability.

We need to show how the Democratic party can strengtghen America and democratic values.

is to show that the Democrats get their strength-and the bulk of their funding-from the people, not big corporations. Only a push like that will inspire people who have dropped out to register and vote.
