Modest Proposal: The Kobe Channel
Since there is so much important information concerning the details of the Kobe Bryant case, why not spin off a channel devoted to images of Kobe walking in and out of court? KNN could have a running word count of the day. "Sources tell us Kobe Bryant has used over fourteen adjectives today...and it's only 3:00!"

Since cable news periodically needs to break away to other stories, the Laci Peterson case could provide variety and a sense of urgency. "This just in: Coroners are confirming that Laci Peterson's body was found covered with a water-like substance."

Kobe/Laci, 24/7. This idea could leave cable news outlets free to cover other, unimportant news that doesn't impact anyone.

Do you think CNN, MSNBC or FOX would go for this idea?

I was at a restaurant/bar last night and ESPN was on the TV and the entire time i was there (45 min) nothing but kobe was on. Granted, it was just as he was about to go to court (all this coverage in order to see him say "not guilty" none the less). Still, this is way overboard. This is why I haven't watched a cable news channel since the "march to war". I am all about the internet news, you only have to read what you want.

3. I have been playing a game I call Kobe Roulette...
Switch on CNN or any other news channel at random intervals through out the day to see how many times in a row you can happen upon news about Kobe. So far, I have gotten Kobe 5 times consecutively. That's my high score... see if you can beat it!

4. Then there's the Kobe drinking game...

You take a swig every time they say "Kobe" or show his picture. But it's just no fun anymore. Or too much fun, depending on how you look at it.

5. They call it Court TV
If you haven't tuned in yet, don't. It is simply not to be believed.

6. So why is this happening?
I agree, it's a circus. And I'm sure it's a distraction from Bush's credibility problems, but who is pulling the strings? All the major cable news outlets are following the story as if somebody cared. Does Rove have that much power?

Fortunately, the network news shows (the main, half-hour ones) don't seem to be riding this bus.

7. I'd like to extend it further...
How about "The Scandal Channel". All of the Laci, OJ, Kobe, etc., that you can stomach. Someone needs to do this, I bet the ratings for that channel would be through the roof!

8. That actually could work.
Seriously. They could run old scandals if it's a slow "news" day.

10. I can't stand it!
I'm in Denver and the CO papers feel they have to cover every minute - two whole pages every day devoted to Kobe! Ugh!

12. I have wondered why they didn't do this...for a long time!
Just put all of the Court TV and gossip crime stuff on separate channels. All of the salacious stuff and the prurience in one place so people who like news won't have to watch it.
